Looking (HA!) for apps and a telescope/monocole. (self.Blind)
submitted by HaRabbiAtta
Hello.

I'm suffering from Cone Rod Dystrophy or some variant of it, center of my vision has a bright white spot. Alongside that, I've got ADD.
Tried using $1 for a few years, but turning to audio just isn't working for me.

I'm interested to know if any of you are using Apps, gadgets to aid in daily life, especially on social media.
I'm using $1 on my PC, as back up when I'm too tired to read long passages.

Plus, is anyone using a monocular telescope or any sort of handheld magnifier (digigtal or not) on everyday life - street and home/office?

I know someone who uses $1. The larger ones work well with rechargeable batteries so it is no terrible if you forget to turn the lamp off.

Small and powerful versions of this are kept in the kitchen draw for reading labels on jars and packets.

Eschenbach also do an easy to use fixed focus monocular called the $1. Fixed focus means that you don't have to focus it, focusing can can be fiddly at times if you are also trying to find part of your eye that still works.

The monocular is used when visiting places like art galleries, towns or the countryside just to see what everyone else is looking at or to more comfortably take in the scenery.

Interesting, thanks.

Will check out the links and see what comes up.

I used to have a few of the Eschenbach Max products, one for TV, one for books and one for events.

The thing is, as my cindition has an issue with the center of my vision, which these devices rely on, the limited field-of-view on them was very problematic for me.

What you really want is somewhere you can try these, or be able to order them from somewhere with a decent returns policy.

The TV glasses are pretty fixed in position but with the monocular and magnifiers they could be angled so that the focus falls on a working part of your eye.

In the UK, local blind charities often have somewhere you can try before you buy. Maybe there is something similar in your locality.

Thanks.
I'll try and call them.
