Mobil Facebook not working with JAWS, seems like the layout has changed, anyone know what to do?(self.Blind)
submitted by grinchnight14
It was working fine yesterday, but when I opened up my mobil version of Facebook on my laptop today, it's like the layout or something changed, and JAWS is harder to work with on it.
Anyone else noticing this?
Or anyone know what to do to deal with it or how it happen?

Yes, mbasic.facebook.com works great for now. They'll probably end up messing it all up accessibility wise just like they did with reddit. I'm using old reddit or Reddit classic, whatever it's called, but more and more, I'm finding that many subs require you to use the new/modern version and it's a freaking mess with jaws.
With Facebook, years ago the main site was okay with a screen reader. Then I had to switch to the mobile site. Now I've switched to the mobile basic site... Why can't they leave things alone...

What's wrong with Reddit? This coming from a guy who's been using the modern version since my first days on Reddit... It's easier to navigate posts and comments, buttons for upvotes and downvotes are the same... Is there something I'm missing?

You seem interested in Python, so I guess you know Linux. There are reddit clients for the terminal, and TUIR has a pure ASCII layout, albeit not so cumbersome. You can use lynx with
... .... export TUIR_BROWSER=lynx
in the terminal, then launching TUIR and pressing u to login. As a TUIR alternative there was another one with a pure command line interface, suitable for a terminal reader such as yasr.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

Also, press "?" and you'll get an inline help. Good to know how the comments and threads work.

I love that on Reddit, I can switch my preffrances to not show me the new version and it works great. If only I could do the same with Facebook. I've always used the mobil version, that's what I was told to use when I was starting to use Facebook

Use mbasic.facebook.com but that won't last forever.

Why won't it last?
I wish they didn't mess with the layout, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Yeah, it completely switched up with no warning.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing myself. The layout definitely changed, and I can't really navigate it anymore either.

I don't know the solution. For a company as large as Facebook, you'd think they wouldn't roll out an upgrade like this that makes the site inaccessible.
