Audiogames (self.Blind)

Hi,

Recently I’ve been checking out audiogames without visuals. Like “A blind legend” and “The vale”, I also saw the Kickstarter for “DeadFright”. I enjoyed the titles, especially the audio quality. Compared to other digital visual games I’ve played, the learning curve was way flatter than I expected it to be.

I don't have any visual impairment, but these kinds of games tend to get talked about here, I've also looked around forums like audiogames.net

I wonder if you have had any pleasant or negative experiences with audio games or other accessible games. Any favorites? And were there any that had a significant impact on you?

I've so far only stumbled across audio rpgs. Are there other genres that have been successful at incorporating sound in a meaningful way to which I should give a try?

A Dark Room (played it on iOS) and King of Dragon Pass were both particularly good. I tend to like strategy and RPGs where a bit of challenge or learning is required.

I think top speed 3 is a nice racing game. No other audio game has come to its level. You would surely be in for a lot of disappointment if you were to compare it to a racing video game though.

Swamp is the greatest game ever created for us blind folks. Its only 2D so its kinda like a mix of doom and Day Z, but I'm just glad I can snipe zombies like anyone else or sprint around a hospital searching for machine guns.
I highly advise you to check it out, its got visuals but from what I know there pretty basic, not very detailed, but the developer is sighted so I guess put them in to help out those with partial or full vision who may struggle with only audio. I have no vision though, so I could care less about visuals lol.
You use the mouse to aim and turn, and shoot and walk forward, but for sharp precise 45 degree turns such as when patrolling on missions or going from one place to another you use the keyboard. You can also remap all the keys if you don't like certain ones, which is nice. However you will still need to use the mouse to turn, but you can change the buttons.
Its online, but also has offline mode to get used to it. Online its about 25 bucks a year usd, because of hackers the developer was forced to put a price tag on it. However its worth it in my opinion.
Go to kaldobsky.com/audiogames and scroll down til you find it. Theres also a discord server, so you don't have to go to the audiogames forum which, in my experience is.... Well.... Not the place to be anymore lol. Too much drama between forum members.
Hope to see you on the game. Would be cool.
