What can I get my mom for Christmas to help her with her vision loss? (self.Blind)
submitted by obliviated-turtle
Hi all, my mom's vision has been failing for the past year due to an injury. She used to paint and sew and embroider and can no longer do any of those things. The adjustment has been hard for her. She can't see at all peripherally and she's very, very nearsighted now.

For Christmas this year, I would like to get her something that helps her. Vague, I know. I don't know much about assistive tech or other useful items, so I'd love recommendations. I'm on a pretty tight budget (about $300, preferably less; I'm a poor grad student), but I'm hoping I can help her just a little. I'd love to see her smile again.

She does read quite a bit for some classes she's taking. Maybe something that will help her with that? Honesty, any suggestions are welcome. I'm out of my wheelhouse on this one. Thanks in advance!

I lost all my perrifural vision and am nearsighted and I've gotten a few things that helped me alot. A magnifier with a light was awesome for reading and using textbooks when online ones weren't available. These stickers that my mom got me they are like little bubbles that you can put on buttons, I use mine on the microwave and tv remote. And some cute sticker things that go over the corners of counters and tables, they are like little cute bears I love them and they helped alot with me injuring myself. I also really appreciate brightly colored stuff. I like to craft and I got those latch hook kits that a brightly colored and have high contrast designs, They kept me sane after I had to stop sewing.
