Audio Description for Music Videos (self.Blind)
submitted by starsstruckk
Hi! I’m currently taking an Audiovisual Translation course in school and was wondering if anyone would be interested to have audio descriptions for music videos.

I’ve seen AD for movies and TV series but rarely for music videos, so I was curious.

If you’re interested, would you mind if the description overlaps with the music? It would be hard to not overlap with the music due to the nature of a music video. I’ve heard people say that they wouldn’t mind, as they can always listen to the description first, then listen to just the music.

Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you!

I think that would be amazing. Thanks!

Sounds interesting if it was universally for every video that would be great or if there was a service where people just described these.

That seems like a great idea

I have used Aira to get descriptions of the songs I enjoy. It adds a lot of meaning to the music.

this peaked my curiosity, haven’t heard of this. What exactly is it?

Perhaps you've heard of BeMyEyes. These are both applications in which a person can see through the camera of your phone and describe what they are seeing. BeMyEyes works with volunteers and its free, and Aira has paid trained agents, and because of this it is a paid service.

oh yeah I have be my eyes on my phone. I think I’ve heard of AIRA before and I was going to look into it to see if it was available in Canada. I think it’s super cool that there’s trained professionals that can give us a hand :-)

It depends, if the description of the characters is important to the understanding of the video, then I would probably want that first, but if it is not, then I honestly don't care what the characters look like.

I’ll keep that in mind! Thanks a lot for sharing :-)

I like this idea. My mom will sometimes describe a music video to me, and I think they are kind of cool. I like some of the videos from the 1980s; I like how some of those videos don't really match the song.

thank you for the reply! if you don’t mind me asking, what do you prefer to hear in a music video description? there’s some who prefer to have the settings described first but there’s also some people who prefer to have the actors (characters in the MV) described first!

Among the best described music videos ever is Stevie Wonder's "$1". (Sorry about the Facebook link).

For a while there was a "$1" trend which in addition to being hilarious often provided great description of the video contents.

Will definitely take notes from Stevie Wonder’s music video when I’m doing my own AD! Will definitely check out the “Literal Video” you’ve mentioned :-) thank you!

This sounds like an interesting project.

Additionally, for some fun times (and inspiration?) look up Music Video Sins on Youtube.
