Can someone help me find these TV series with audio description please (self.Blind)
submitted by poochbrah
I want to watch "the wire" and "the sopranos" with audio description but struggling to find them anywhere.

I don't mind any platform whether that be streaming, blu ray or dvd but I am in the UK so I'll need to be able to access it or get it shipped here.

Any help appreciated.

Have you tried the Audio Description Project? To see if they have it listed.

Thanks for that link neither of them were there but it'll be useful to search for other titles.

Be very careful when using that website—description frequently varies by region, and that site is exclusively focused on the US.
poochbrah [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Thanks didn't realise it was US based.

Sky Atlantic broadcasts both shows with description.

Thanks. Can I watch the episodes with audio description on demand or do I have to wait each week for each episode?

Assuming this is available on sky only so I'll ask a friend to check tomorrow.

I have all the channels on virgin media but when I search for shows on demand the audio description is never available.

Keep us posted if you find anything out, OP. I'd also love to watch the Wire but would like to do so with video also.

Will do mate.
CloudyBeep 1 points 2y ago
I'm not sure. You may be able to record episodes. You can view an accessible schedule at www.tvhelp.org.uk, but this schedule doesn't list Sky Atlantic.

Thanks for the link will defo come in use for other shows

Does the audio vault not have them?
CloudyBeep 1 points 2y ago
In addition to that site being illegal, you would probably have difficulty aligning the audio and video because the episodes may have been cut to fit into the time slot that they had when they were broadcast on BBC Two.

Laws be damned. Blind people being excluded from participating in culture, because some short sighted asshat didn’t think that buying the rights to the audio description track in my country mattered, is blatantly cruel and discriminatory. Laws should not be used to justify cruelty and discrimination.
CloudyBeep 1 points 2y ago
Have you advocated for it?
poochbrah [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Thanks for this never knew about this website. The wire is there but I'm not sure how I would put the audio and the video together to watch it in sync?

The download link on the site is also split by season and not by episode either?
bjayernaeiy 1 points 2y ago
I misread your post, didn't pay atention that you were looking for video as well. Not sure how you'd combine those, but at least you have access to the AD tracks now.
The series are divided by seasons, in each seasons are however many episodes there are per season, 10, 15, etc.
poochbrah [OP] 1 points 2y ago
True thanks. Worse comes to worse I can play the audio on my phone and have the TV on mute.
retrolental_morose 1 points 2y ago
Do you want the picture? I'd be surprised if someone hadn't wripped just the audio, assuming they've been described on terrestrial or Sky at some point.
poochbrah [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Yes I would want the picture too.

If they were described on sky or terrestrial how would I get hold of it?
retrolental_morose 1 points 2y ago
you'd have to catch it on a rebroadcast from those places. If Netflix gains things you sometimes get all the description too. DVD and Blu-ray releases were historically not described, because the AD came through the airing network rather than the production studio. This has largely changed for movies of course but I haven't bought a series on disk for well over a decade, so am outdated now.
poochbrah [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Thanks. Yeah it's not on Netflix and the wire on amazon doesn't seem to have the audio description track.

I'll have a search on virgin media to see if they have it on catch up.
retrolental_morose 1 points 2y ago
Sky at least had no described content on catchup or NowTV, their web offering. You literally had to fork out much more each month for a dish to have the description. If I'd had the money I'd have liked to make a legal challenge, but it probably wouldn't have got me anywhere

I'm free-to-air TV nowNetflix and Disney+ and that currently suits us, although we did enjoy Sky movies when we had more disposable income. .
