Take a deep breath. Talk to the doctor and see what they say before you panic. Odds are in your favor.

I agree. I am NAD, there seem to be treatment for cataracts, surgery even to correct

I've been legally blind my whole life, and at 35, I had to have my two cataracts removed. I was still legally blind. I'm 20/200 and 20/400 and it sounds like you can see a lot better than I can. My problem is R.O.P. I still closer than a foot away to my pc screen. The better the article or webpage, the closer I find myself getting, haha, until my nose almost touches it.

I can't comment on free healthcare. We don't have that here in the USA. But I do have insurance, thanks to my blindness. So, there's that. I've never been able to drive a vehicle, my biggest lamentation of my whole life. I have no independence where I live. I'm so rural. My neighbors are cows and pine trees.

My vision will slowly continue to worsen as I age. I'm 52 now. A lot wiser, but still going blind. All you can do is your best, and hang in there. I'm sorry I don't know what more to say....

Cataract surgery is fairly routine and believe it or not, cataracts do appear in younger people. My husband had cataract surgery at 35. I had my first cataract surgery at 38 and will need surgery in the other eye soon. It's a painless process and recovery is immediate. I'm not sure whether there is a reason you can't get the cataract surgery? It will fix your eyesight immediately and completely. And they will correct your vision at the same time. The only thing you have to watch out for is that they don't correct your vision so much that it's out of line with your other eye, which can cause dizziness. Feel free to ask me additional questions as I did have the surgery and kicked myself for not doing it sooner.

I’m having my second eye done in 3 weeks. I am in my 50’s, but even that is young for cataract surgery, but certainly not unheard of. I had my right eye done 2 years ago after (nearly) sudden loss of vision brought me to an ophthalmologist that diagnosed me with cataract in one eye. My other eye was 20/20. Now 2 years later a cataract is completely obstructing vision in that eye. It’s a certain kind of cataract that happens in younger than the norm and happens significantly more quickly. (Normally takes many years to decades ) The good news is the surgery is quick, painless and very effective.

Bruh I think OP hates free healthcare. That's what his last paragraph said

Canada here. What province? Depending on your province, Vision Loss Rehab (the rehabilitation wing of CNIB) may be able to do a low vision assessment, as well as provide O&M and ILS assessments to see what can be done to help.

Lasik works by re-sculpting the cornea. However, cataracts are clouding of the lens, which is behind the cornea. Lasik itself would not be able to clear up the cataracts.

Do they know the cause of the cataracts? There could be a variety of causes.

I'm in Nova Scotia. And I actually don't know what caused the cataracts. I only recall an approximate year that my vision started becoming poor. I just checked out Vision Loss Rehab's website and they seem to only accept referrals from one's GP. Mine retired three years ago and I am still on a wait list for a new doctor.

You can call the national number (1-844-887-8572) and self-refer. They will need an updated eye report, from any eye doctor (opthalmologist or optometrist), but that can be done after you get set up. I'm not exactly sure of the process in Nova Scotia, but in Ontario, we can provide some services before we get the eye report (however, low vision services does need the eye report first).

Thank you so much for that info, I greatly appreciate it! Will call them first thing tomorrow.

No problems. Our health care system can sometimes be a little wonky. A while ago, a client of mine was complaining about needing to get a doctor's note to confirm their vision loss for funding for medical equipment. The equipment was for ... Prosthetic eyes.

I believe the doctor essentially just wrote a letter saying the client still had no eyeballs.

I've heard the same thing for veterans having to provide evidence they are still missing a limb.

I can’t understand how terrifying it is considering the fact that I lost my site so long ago but can I invite you on my show, third eye visions and hopefully allow you to share your thoughts with probably can help you in the long run?

Get a second opinion. Ask questions. Recognize that just because doctors can’t cure everything doesn’t mean that they don’t care. Get some help for your anger. Anger will not fix anything. If they really can’t help you see better then it absolutely sucks and you’ll have to make adjustments in your life, no matter how unfair that may seem.

You don't know the shit I've endured so please don't tell me what to do. The reason I'm angry is because NO ONE in the medical field legitimate seems to care about me. I was clothes-lined when I was 19, causing damage from my L1-S5 and allowing for me to develop deteriorating discs. The following year my left leg was run over by a semi, fracturing my left iliac wing. I was bed bound for three months after the truck incident. I haven't been able to have a full night of unbroken sleep in 22 years. The pain in my back gets so bad I can't walk or even stand. I have difficulty even dressing myself. To put on socks I must slide down a wall just to reach my feet. Last time I went to the hospital for excruciating pain I was in the waiting room for seven hours! When they finally called me into the back, I was placed on a bed for another for hours. When a nurse, not even a fucking doctor, finally came into see me he handed me two extra strength Tylenol—I had that shit in my cupboard, ffs! I was furious, and rightly so. I threw that shit into the hall, and hobbled from the hospital, hunched over and looking like fucking Quasimodo.
