Skip YouTube ads (self.Blind)
submitted by seenoevilcuzimblind
How does everyone navigate the skip ads button on YouTube? Sometimes I'm so confused as to why my video has paused and it turns out I have an ad I need to skip.

I know the obvious answer to this question is ad blockers or paying for premium. But I use YouTube on my work computer so I can't add ad blocker and I really don't wanna pay lol!!

Not all adblockers are standalone pieces of software, some can just be added to chrome and they don't require admin rights etc. I use adguard.

Unfortunately we're not allowed to add any extensions that aren't company approved because we deal with sensitive info.

I use the Brave browser. No ads in Youtube.

get Firefox and run u block origin on that, or you could also set up a raspberry pi with pie hole to block ads cross your entire network.

Pihole does not work with YouTube adverts

Signing up for premium is money well spent. And I am ridiculously cheap.

I just tried it, the skip add button is above the like add button, so if you find play/pause and shift b a couple times; you should here skip add button, press enter on that.

I'm annoyed at this whole, do you want to sign in crap, I click no, it comes back a couple of videos later.

There's meant to be scripts and things you can use to stop it but I don't want to mess with that.

The way ads work is that the video plays after the ad ends no matter if you skip for not. There’s sometimes a loading delay though which may be your issue

I've had many ads that won't bring the video back unless I skip. There's a skip the dishes one I believe that does it for example.

There's also some ads that are crazy long.

That I will give you. The best solution I know of is as soon as you realize an ad is playing, to tab around to get to the button, and activate it once it’s active

It’s pretty standard on the ios side just swipe to it I guess just understand what is an ad and what is the video?

With VoiceOver, I either switch to Form Control navigation to find the button, or hit VO+F to open the Find dialog and type in Skip Ad to immediately find the button. Then, with every subsequent ad, I just have to hit VO+G to find the Skip button again. Or Shift+VO+G if I'm navigating somewhere below the video container.
