Is the Apple watch any good for visually impaired people?(self.Blind)
submitted by hobohuffer
My partner is pretty much fully blind. Just a trace of color perception if she sticks things right up to her eye - e.g. wouldn't ever be able to read anything on an apple watch.
Blind people of this subreddit who have or want an apple watch, what do you like about it? I'm between the watch and airpods for her for Christmas but she loses earbuds pretty often and is particular about how they seat in her ears.

I am totally blind and I have one. It works well. If you can use iPhone, you can use an apple watch. Feel free to hit me up with questions.

Thanks, I knew Apple has been great about accessibility - her iPhone works great for her. I just wasn't sure it would be much of a value-add on top of it, but the comments here are reassuring that it will be. And until I figure out a way to track down lost airpods with some kind of bluetooth app I think it'll be the gift that gives more :)

The Apple Watch is to my knowledge, the most accessible smart watch out there. Good quality for their price, and they have voiceover, large text and other features

I'm totally blind and own the Apple watch SE. It's fantastic! I use it for the pedometer, heart rate, reminders, iMessages, news stories, the stopwwatch, weather, voice memos, siri, etc. I'll also answer phone calls with it once in a while. I also tried out the compass and that is accessible as well.

I have the Series 6 and I absolutely love it. Iphone plus Watch is the best combo out there IMO.

Yes definitely. I’ve got the Apple Watch SE and VoiceOver works fantastic on it. I like the fact that I can dump my phone in a bag but still hear notifications, check the time etc. it’s also a great fitness tracker.

I’m legally blind and have had an apple watch for about a year and I absolutely love it. My favourite feature has to be the maps app. I just ask siri to take me where I wanna go, I pop in my airpods to hear the directions and it just vibrates on my wrists whenever I need to make a turn or there’s something I should be aware of. I can just set it up and walk stress-free as if I was sighted. I also like the fitness features and the fact that you can do simple tasks without having to reach for your phone, but none of it is quite as cool as that map vibration thing.

That's great, my girlfriend would definitely love that. We've been together three years and I still only *mostly* understand how she navigates, and going new places definitely stresses her out. This would be really useful for her.

Definitely! It’s one of the most accessible pieces of technology that I own and I absolutely love it. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a DM and I’ll do my best to address them.

It’s the best option out there. Samsung and android smart watches are OK I guess, but Apple Watch is the best for accessibility

I am totally blind and it is excellent. I’ve owned an apple watch for 3 or 4 years now. And they are awesome from the 3 to the 6. They are very very helpful and invaluable. I use mine every day, from cooking to walking. The exercise type of walking that is but other stuff is good too I guess it counts my steps to the bathroom and fridge.

The Apple watch is bad whether you're blind or not.
