Blind Instant Pot owners...do you have any tips or warnings? (self.Blind)
submitted by guitarandbooks
Hey everybody. I have a new eight quart Instant Pot sitting in it's box here. I am still rearranging the kitchen to make more counter space available but plan to unpack her pretty soon.

Anyways, I've used a crock pot for many years but this is my first pressure cooker. If anybody would like to comment with useful tips or warnings, I'd appreciate it! Maybe there are things a blind person may need to pay attention to that a sighted person may not?

I use an instant pot a lot and I’m legally blind. There feels like an awful lot of buttons but I mainly use the ‘sauté’ ‘manual pressure’ and ‘cancel’ buttons. Once I remembered where those three were it’s pretty easy. I also just keep it set to the ‘high pressure’ option. One thing to be careful of, is when you release the pressure the steam is really hot. So I got an attachment that points the valve in a more specific direction.

I make a lot of soup with mine. It really does cut down on the cooking time but tastes like you spent all day making the soup lol Chicken noodle, minestrone, and Zuppa Toscata are my favorite. It’s also really easy to cook potatoes; like for potato salad, or mashed potatoes. I have a little steamer basket that comes in handy for different veggies!

Do they still have a version that works with an app? Was just curious.

I’m not sure, but that would be awesome. I’ll have to look into that; pun intended.

This link is from Amazon Canada but it’s what I was talking about. It used to Connect to the app through Bluetooth but now it’s Wi-Fi. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0777XQ4S8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_TxePFbEWEFE5W

Yeah, there used to be a smart version of the instant pot that worked with an iOS app. I’m not entirely sure they make it anymore though. It was really popular within the blind community when it first came out however.
