Review of the Envision Glasses (tink.uk)

The examples of where such devices are useful are bit strange especially nr 1: Didn't pay with cash if possible especially in Covid in many countries it's actually forbidden and majority of shops switched to credit cards/wireless payment/NFC or other kind of contact less payment and paying by cash is seen now more than a year as source of contamination. You can't desinfect paper money.
I agree with nr2 but never used phone or never saw anyone using their phone like that in nr3 like this lol. Good sighted people can find me themselves faster and much more precise than any AI and nowadays any algorithm is stupid and imperfect compared to human and still unuseable even Envision or OrCam.
But yes in this pandemic when social distancing is mandatory, it's hard to get others people help, you can't touch lot of things OCR, barcode, product recognition from a distance is useful and not in all countries using phone as a helping tool is automatically mistaken by others as "invading their privacy but taking pictures and videos" invading personal privacy laws and i was often forced to stop using my smartphone (i was there with my white cane often and with mobility trainer) as a aid in supermarket, restaurant even big cities (yes big city with school for the blind developed country in small cities even worse) so maybe such devices that looks so common they won't be so intrusive better accepted idk.

But 80% of functionality of the device for now is WIFI based which is not travel friendly at all or for places with no WIFI or poor signal coverage. Color Identification is very poor,Instant Text accuracy is poor too horrible for languages other than English although Envision claimed in preorders in webinars it recognizes over 60 languages it often even doesn't recognize a 3 words properly from full page text of supported language! They said an update comes with some fixes in 2 next week's or so which I'm glad to hear. Glasses are swift overall and quickly responding to gestures, they have QuickCharge due to USB-C. Standard Titanium Frames are so fragile cheap wire frames and sharp unfinished on the edges they injure skin easily I'm glad i choose Smith Optics but they're not best either although light and better build not sturdy easy to damage if not careful still better than cheaper option and you can put in real lenses like transition ones or sunglasses. They're hoping that services/apps like Aira BeMyEyes and others will be available to EnvisionGlasses and much more that there will be more functionality and apps. EnvisionGlasses still needs lots of work if they want to sell them for full price - pre-order price was actually half the price of regular one it will be around 3.500$ or € plus taxes and provisions of distributors (webinars info)
