How do you make a ringtone using GarageBand on iPhone?(self.Blind)
submitted by RollForParadise
hello everyone! I hope you guys are doing well. I figured it was probably a smarter idea to come see if any of you guys could help me out since I don’t think R/apple would be very familiar with voiceover and how i use it.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to use the GarageBand app on my iPhone to convert an MP3 file I have into a 30 second ringtone. I know it’s possible, but all of the videos I’ve tried to listen to on YouTube are all similar and have the same problems such as:
“and then tap on this funky gray squiggly button over here“ “and then you’ll see in this panel over here will turn this colour and then you can slide this thing over here“ And not being able to see it makes this pretty frustrating.
I haven’t really touched garage band with a 10 foot pole since early high school and I wasn’t using voiceover back then and it was still really confusing.
For now I figured out how to copy the YouTube link, convert the YouTube video to MP3, save the MP3 file to the Files app on my phone, and then I opened up GarageBand and got completely lost. I’m usually pretty good at figuring things out on my own but this time I really need your guys help.
If any of you have done this it would be so very kind of you to help explain it! But please explain it like I’m a five-year-old because I am so freaking lost LOL. Thank you guys for any tips you can give me. See ya

I found a way of making ringtones without iTunes and even without a computer. You can cut and convert any local song on your iPhone into ringtone with Garage Band. Really easy $1

local song, is that only music I’ve paid for in the music app? Or can it be done with an MP3 file I have in my files app. All of my music comes from Spotify so I haven’t bought any music… Although it seems like it’s causing me more headaches than I expected when trying to create a ringtone LOL

As I know any downloaded mp3 file can be edited in GarageBand

I know this is possible via iTunes on a computer as I did it about a year ago!
Here’s instructions from an apple discussion board. I have no idea how accessible this will be though.
Open itunes on your computer. 2. Select the song you want to use as a ringtone from your itunes library. 3. Right click then “Get Info”. In the get info window, select the Options tab and change the start and stop time on the part of the song that you want to use as a ringtone. The length of the tone should not be more than 30 seconds. After setting the start and stop time click OK. 4. Click File/Convert/Create MP3 version. The new mp3 version will be shown in the “Recently Added” folder playlist. Copy or Drag it into your desktop. 5. Use a “Audio Converter” to convert the song on your desktop to “m4a format”. I use “Music Converter Pro” which you can download for free on the Appstore or you can use any software as long as you can convert the song into m4a format. 6. Once the mp3 version has been converted into m4a. Select the m4a version and rename the extension file from .m4a to .m4r. Changing it to m4r makes the file format into a ringtone. 7. Drag the song into the itunes Tone Library. 8. Connect your iphone to itunes. 9. Select the “Tones” tab from the iPhone section. Under the Tones section, select “Sync All Tones” and then click on the “Sync” buttonat the bottom of the iTunes. When your iPhone is done syncing, the new ringtones can be found in your Settings app on your device.Go to Settings> Sounds> Ringtone and select your new tone. These can also be used as text message tones, so you can really let your creativity shine.

Hello there! I appreciate your reply but sadly I asked about specifically making ringtones on my iPhone because I cannot physically use a computer… So I don’t own one anyways :-) Hopefully someone else has an idea on how to figure this out.

This is the only way I know to do it as well. Have never heard of an accessible manner of doing this all on the iPhone.
