I can give you some starter points but you'll need to talk to him directly as to what he likes and doesn't. That's what my girlfriend did. I'm legally blind and she is sighted. Without open conversations, things can be hard and at times unsafe.
For menus, ask him what he prefers. I like using my camera to take a picture and enlarge it. If they have iPad menus, just ask him. You asking him will show that you're respectful of him and are not making assumptions.
I hold onto my girlfriend's hand when walking. I use the cane depending on the type of road we're on. In the beginning, she used to give me verbal directions when turning left or right. Now she directs with the hand I'm holding. I know by her hand rotation where we are heading. Directions will be different depending on if he's a cane user or has a guide dog.
Museums are not out of the question. Check if the museum offers touch tours for the visually impaired. My girlfriend and I have gone to the drive-in theatre, corn maze, apple orchard, mini-golf and multiple parks and picnics. For indoor stuff, cook together, dance, movies (NetFlix has movies with audio description), board games, and so many more.
You can try comedy clubs as you like his humour. Ask him what he likes to do. It will show that you respect him and are eager to learn.
