What is your acuity? That will make the biggest difference, what works for me and my workflow and my 20/80 vision may not work for you. As for IPS, I don’t personally notice a meaningful difference other than what a normally sighted person would.

I can’t answer what will work for you, but I can tell you my experience!

I’ve used a 50” 4K TCL TV as a monitor for quite a while, but I only run it at ~1440p. It works very well for me, but with how close I sit to it it’s sometimes hard to see stuff in the corners since it’s so big.

I’m presently using 2x 32” 1440p panels driven at 1080p. It’s more comfortable to use and not as overwhelming, but there are definitely some things harder to read.

Size, Viewing distance; and resolution all combine to what will be most comfortable for you as well as fit the most content on the screen. For example, fonts and UI elements on a 1440p 32” panel are about the same size as a ~22” 1080p panel (anecdotal experiences, not actually mathematically equivalent), but you can fit more content on the 32” display.

tl;dr: maybe go somewhere like Best Buy (if you’re in the US) and look at various options. Only you can know what is most comfortable for you.

How close do you need to be to the screen to see it? Personally, I need to be very close, so I don't use a huge monitor because that makes it harder to see the edges. My current monitor is a 24inch. In the same vein, I went with one with an IPS panel because of the better viewing angles, although I have to admit I'm not sure I really notice a huge difference.

If you sit further back and use magnification, I'd say go with a big and high resolution monitor. In this case, it should help because you'll get more stuff on the screen at the same zoom level as a smaller monitor. I don't think the panel type would matter quite as much here, this is probably more personal preference at this point.
