Hi! My roommate is blind and I want to get her an advent calendar. I can't find any with braille, so I was thinking of using stick-on rhinestones or something to DIY the braille. Would that work? For two-digit numbers, I would just put the 1 and 3 together?
Also, would it be too much of a headache to use the mixed number order of the calendar, or should I just number it from left to right so she doesn't have to search around? Thanks!

If you live in the US and PM me an address I can send you braille stickers of the numbers in the mail.

Puff paint works really well. And if she has residual color vision that could also be a cue if you can get the right colors.
Once puff paint dries it should be fine to be touched no matter what. So you can shuffle the numbers for more fun!
Oh and let me link you a Braille site that you can put any text into and know what the Braille should look like. Just select "English (US) 1" as the language and it will be in the most accessible Braille. (Braille 2 has a ton of shorthand that people may or may not know).

Check out braille label makers!

Thanks! I'll consider it, I'm just a bit hesitant as I'd probably only use it once or twice.
Is it too much trouble putting the numbers in the random order of the calendar? I can imagine it might be annoying trying to find them. It's annoying enough for me as it is without braille lol.

I guess it depends if she likes a little gamification. Me personally I'd like the little search game, but you know her better than us.
Really cool idea of you eirher way!

Come back and tell us how your project went.
And just on the topic of home made Braille a friend of mine made Braille cross stitch.
And is your blind room mate single?

You could try using Braille keyboard stickers or using a Braille slate and stylus. Both can be found on Amazon.

What a sweet, thoughtful gift. That’s all I have to say.

A braille slate and stylus can be found on Amazon for $10. Its manual and for short messages. Perfect for labels and cards! I’m a print reader but have braille reading friends and students. I use it for Christmas and birthday cards. It’s small enough that it doesn’t take up much space the rest of the year.
