I am a DeafBlind person who was wondering if you guys had any cooking tips. I was specifically wondering about scales and letting other people know you can be trusted in the kitchen, as well as dealing with heat, and doneness, but a general discussion about cooking would be cool as well.

Happy to answer any questions you might have. I am blind, and my partner is deafblind. If you have any particular questions, feel free to ask. If not, I’ll come back in a little while with some tips.

What do you two use for a scale? Especially your partner, as I cannot use a talking scale?

I appreciate the thourough respons. I’ll definitely look into buying an old scale. I think my grandmother had one like that. I do use the cups, and fractions of cups that Americans use, but we don’t use those much here, so I was just kind of curious. Thanks a lot. Also, I can definitely relate to the overprotective parent thing.

Can you contact a Vision Rehab Therapist (VRT)? Not sure how it works in Canada, but their entire job is teaching these skills to people with visual impairments.

I posted this on another thread, but bbq gloves so you can feel the meat without burning yourself. I’ve got a pair I have yet to check out, but my OT has told me good things about clients that have used them. Maybe a liquid level indicator so you can measure liquids and it vibrates when it’s nearing full.
