Research help please! (self.Blind)
submitted by researchstudent9876
Hello! I hope everyone is well. I am reaching out in hope to gain some participants for this important research please! Anyone participating is hugely appreciated!

I am a student currently working with a research team at my University (University of Lincoln, UK) on a study called 'Auditory Memory'. This study will allow us to understand auditory processing and memory functions in individuals with partial and complete vision loss. I am posting here in hope to gain some participants with partial or complete vision loss. Any participation will be greatly appreciated (there is a chance to win Amazon vouchers too!). Please do not hesitate to message me if there are any questions! Thank you so much.

This study must be completed on a computer with a keyboard. The study works best with the browsers Firefox, google chrome and Microsoft edge. (It does not work well with safari).

Interesting..... I guess the study is over now the study seems to be still opened though or doable.

I would say that this would be geared towards the people who are auditory I am now convinced I am not and probably not do this very well. So yeah. Auditory learning isn’t necessarily my thing.

Instead of telling people that they have to turn off the screen reader, you could adjust the instructions to say that the virtual cursor or browse mode should be disabled, which can be done with INSERT+Z with JAWS or INSERT+SPACEBAR with NVDA.

Some of the questions on the demographic part of the form do not have labels associated with form controls.

Thank you for your feedback. I will pass it onto my research supervisor!

You expect us to help you with no incentive? People like this come here every single day

Is this important to us? Or to you?

Hello. This research is hopefully going to be very helpful in further understanding auditory processing in individuals with partial and complete vision loss. Therefore hopefully many people who are interested in this area would find this research important. I realise there isn’t much incentive to complete the study, I am sorry for that. However, there are two £48 Amazon vouchers that participants have a chance of winning if they take part.

What is your current research? What have you found in terms of echo location, echo identification, the hearing processes, deaf-blindness, working memory on blind people, and brain plasticity in blind people? What will be done with this research?

This current research is focusing on auditory and memory processes in individuals - following the work from Florian Kattner (who is also a collaborator with this study) and Wolfgang Ellermeier, in 2014 (Kattner,F., & Ellermeier, W. (2014). Irrelevant speech does not interfere with serial recall in early blind listeners. *Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology*, *67*(11), 2207-2217). Regarding the other topic areas you have mentioned we are not currently focusing on them specifically but my supervisor has completed research on many of them which are shown here on her Google Scholar page - $1. Thank you for your questions regarding the topic areas and any further questions my supervisor will be happy to answer at $1
