Retro arch experimenting (self.Blind)
submitted by peggy2033
I have used retro arch in the past but I thought I would showcase it sometime soon because of its screen reader option. You can navigate the menus and settings perfectly fine but when it comes to actually using games that’s a completely different story. I plan to get the AI service up and running sometime soon after I showcases because with that there is a Way to read the text within games. If anyone has a questions or advice feel free to reply since I am open to ideas or questions.

I have been using retro arch since about March to play animal crossing wild world, it has been absolutely amazing and there has been only one time that the translation service was down for like three days.

Huh, now I want to give that a try on my pi and see how it is. I just got a new pi a few days ago, haven't set it up yet.

I'd like to see your demo, and especially how the AI works to play a real game.

Sounds good, I’ll mess with OBS today to see if I can properly capture my screen since it usually crops out a corner of it.

Hi. I also wanted to try retroarch but don”t know much. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, what operating system are you going to use? Also is there a set of games that you would like to try out that way I could have an idea.

Is the IOS version of RetroArch accessible? Re: Phoenix Right, could a screen-reader read the Japanese text, or does it have to be scanned by ZTranslate to be visible to a screen-reader? Thanks for any clarification!
peggy2033 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Alsoe sorry for the second reply but the mobile port of these games also isn’t accessible which I tried less than an hour ago.
peggy2033 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
From what I remember retro arch on iOS is unusable with a screen reader, you cannot navigate any of the menus at all. Since I don’t remember it being accessible I doubt it would be able to use the service which is Z translate at all.

Understood. So, to clarify, you’re running the DS games on a computer, and are translating the text via ZTranslate, correct? Could a screen-reader read the in-game text without ZTranslate?
peggy2033 [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Yeah, I was using Z translate on a computer since that was the easiest way. On computer before that I would use NVDA with its text recognition command to read out loud things but then I found out that Z translate was significantly more accurate.

Thanks for clarifying.

As an update I got the AI service to work, I am using Z translate as my current service right now since I can’t use the Google version since I don’t have an account. At the top of my head I don’t know how many scans you can do per month but so far it’s been looking pretty good. As a test I used something quite heavy on text which is the ace attorney Nintendo DS games. Hahaha something tells me I’m going to completely eat through the monthly limit but oh well I guess I can make multiple accounts if I’m that desperate.
