Clothing and Things That Help The Visually Impaired (self.Blind)
submitted by PlausibleCoconut
If anyone has asked this before I am sorry, I could not find it. I am a screen printer am starting a clothing line that I want to be more inclusive to the visually impaired.

I know there are other brands that use braille. I am not visually impaired so I have no idea where to start with that. My question is if most blind people are able to read the standard English alphabet through touch. I can print things with raised ink, but I don't even know if this a thing people can do, or would be interested in.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

I wouldn't wear "accessible" clothing.

Braille tags explaining details like “pink shirt” might be useful. I like embossed lettering on graphic shirts to identify them as well. However, I would say that accessible clothes for the VI community isn’t entirely necessary - maybe focus on making fashionable clothes for adults in wheelchairs or sensory issues instead?

Thank you so much for your reply. Screen printers do not sew or create new garments, but rather print on existing ones so that’s not really feasible for me.

Ahh, that’s fair enough

Sounds like a interesting idea maybe in the back or the side the color? That may help my father had another interesting idea but it wasn’t screen printing. It was with rinestones. But yeah. Maybe color somewhere on the back or side would be interesting. He did it on the back like bottomish for me. By the hip. Past the seam. This shirt I have has it it says r for red.

Personally, I'd never buy a blindness specific brand because I feel its not classy and I personally like luxury clotheing anyway. Think Ralph Loran or Kalvin Kline.
