Disability awareness day (self.Blind)

My company has a whole day planned for today's 'Disability awareness day'.
Each disabled employee got a personal letter and a mask.
The company website did interviews with each of us, about our disabilities, how we cope and how it affects our work and the relationship with other employees. There s also a personal aspect, where each one added about personal interests and daily life.
There are sign language and other classes on zoom, for all who wish to learn, later in the day.
Seeing the amount of time and effort they went through to run this, makes me proud.

When a group of people I worked with for a BigCorp was asked how many disabled people there were on the team, several of them said none. When this was questioned later, they went, oh, but Jan isn't, like, you know, disabled, she's, like, normal only yeah blind but not like disabled disabled.

I have such mixed feelings if that happened to me I’d be like good you don’t view me as a sad person you have to help along but don’t forget that I’m blind here.

Usually I would joke about things like that but in a company no I don’t think so.
We are disabled/have a disability no matter how you look at this. Dis lacking, ability, we lack the ability to see.

My org has pretended it doesn’t exist, and it’s a hospital.
Then again they did lose a few lawsuits because of how terrible they are.
