Hey I’m blind in kind of new to the sub. How do you feel about the accessibility of social media applications and how do you think they could be improved?(self.Blind)

what i consider to be nothing else than pure evilness by the developers is buttons which are just named "button"
how the hell is someone with a screen reader supposed to figure out what it's for? I haven't created any apps yet, but some websites, and one of the first things on our agenda always is to add alt text to everything from the company logo to the CEO's bathroom selfies.
not labeling everything is just pure ignorance.

Just press them the app or phone isn’t going to break. Experimentation is fun.

I think it's more due to laziness than ignorance.
RatorLP2 points2y ago
I don’t think so, because it isn’t even a lot of work
siriuslylupin61 points2y ago
It’s just people not thinking about it or taking short cuts may not be very complex but where people can cut corners they will.

I have no issues with most social media platforms most of them are readily accessible but reddit isn’t so clients for it is very helpful.

Nice timing because I was just getting annoyed that here on Reddit, when using fancy pants editor, suddenly in Edge Chromium all these buttons are overlapping each other where I can't submit replies unless I lower the browser zoom down...
In fact it feels like in the past year or two more and more sites have major issues when the zoom level is even 100% or higher.

Use an app. There’s one for windows for the blind.

Ugh, I use zoom a lot too, and LinkedIn menus are the bane of my existence.

Honestly I think that default Reddit app is pretty much borderline unusable when it comes to using a screen reader on iOS. I don’t remember where I saw the recommendation but somebody recommended using BaconReader which made using Reddit significantly more enjoyable.

Or bacon reader. Some people also say apollo there’s a blind client on the windows side too.

Dystopia (r/dystopiaforreddit) has even better accessibility.
Our mission is to provide everyone with access to large- scale community websites for the good of humanity. Without ads, without tracking, without greed.
