I have a genetic disorder that makes it real easy for your retina to detache. So i was in the 9th grade just having lunch and realized that I couldn’t see from my right eye and I was like woopsie daisy. And then I got that fixed and for some reason the next year the left eye was like "you know what,, same" and it fell appart too.

Same thing happened in my left eye last year, currently dealing with cataracts now. Luckily I asked my doctor to check my right eye because it was soon to follow.

Yeah I had cataracts too after the surgery I think it comes from the sillicone or something I didn’t really keep up. Good that you asked your doctor to keep up with your second eye because they often follow! Good luck I hope everything gets better for you!!

Like everyone else on this thread, I have retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) too! I was born at 25 weeks gestation and weighed one pound and eight ounces. I had both laser surgery and cryotherapy which saved a fair amount of central vision in my right eye – no depth perception but I still have 20/100 vision. Unfortunately I completely lost all sight in my left eye. Fortunately there's been no changes as I've grown older, but as others have said, there is a high risk the rest of my remaining retina in my right eye could detach so I'm always told to watch out for any sudden changes in my vision.

I have ROP. Last year, my vision was deteriorating in my right eye (the only eye with sight) and I thought it was my cornea. Went to the hospital with my boyfriend on his birthday and turns out my retina was slowly detaching, peeling off like wallpaper.

Retinopathy of prematurity. Sorry, autocorrect haha

Ii was born premature at 5th month, at 23rh week of pregnancy 550 g and got Retinopathy of Prematurity (retina disease undeveloped retina grows bad veins that causes tears and detachments layer in life neovascular glaucoma and other bad stuff) but at those days there were no laser to protect my eyes or cryotherapy. Actually no one believes i will survive but they tried anyway.
I had only minor eye problems with eyes till i was 15 then suddenly ROP Stage 2/3 caused retinal tear and later in days in hospital detachment in left eye tried laser and surgery it's now fully blind. Right eye has 3rd ROP plus stage too had retinal tear but caught in time. Drs destroyed 70% of bad retina with laser to save rest of vision but it's still can happen anyway still have dangerous scars that can cause quick detachment it can happen anytime without reason.

Are you me? I have retinopathy of prematurity too! I was born at 25 weeks and weighed one pound and eight ounces. I think you are older than me (I'm 20) because I had both laser surgery and cryotherapy which saved a fair amount of central vision in my right eye – no depth perception but I still have 20/100 vision. Unfortunately I lost all my sight in my left eye.

Hah well I'm older (30) and my right eye vision is bit worse 20/1000 but left eye is total blind too. Yeah no depth perception but I can live with it as long i can see anything. There's lots of premature born ones out there with unlucky outcomes but I still think compared to others had quite lot of luck.

So many sad stories in this subreddit Do you fear the worst ?

Yes I am, i experienced it before but was at hospital so my vision partially returned. Seeing light and colors again is most amazing thing I don't want to experience that agony of losing it all again. Maybe it's easier when you lose it at younger age as child like my grandfather (3 yr old) idk but for me it wouldn't be acceptable i know it.
Full blindness... I experienced it few times for hours or even due to retinal vein occlusion and bleeding, hypotony and other serious complications after surgeries on my right eye.
