Twitch removes "blind playthrough" tag over ableism concerns (self.Blind)
submitted by veryfocus
Hi folks,

I'm really interested to hear from folks in this community think about Twitch, the streaming platform, banning the "blind playthrough" tag over concerns it was ableist language. The term was used by players to describe the experience of playing through a game for the first time without any previous knowledge or experience of it. For folks with vision impairments, what are your thoughts on this?

Here's a link to one article on the subject from ScreenRant:

It’s more amusing to me then anything the tag seems harmless.

There's already a post with several comments about this issue. Delete this post and read the comments in that one.

What an amazing step forward! This does so much more for us than improving the chat experience on large streams for screen reader users or having an accessibility category for games or using fewer overlays and more headings or letting us use the volume control again.

I don't know what's more insulting, them not keeping up with accessibility in the first place (they do try sometimes) or focusing on this virtue signaling PR nonsense instead.

Sure, it probably makes the world 0.0001% better if we don't use the word blind like this, but the priorities here are all kinds of messed up.

There's already a post about this, but the short of it is, it's just snowflake nonsense.
