I have it! Diagnosed at 13. Currently M 28. It’s an incredibly slow process so chances are she’ll be able to see for years to come. And one generally never goes fully blind with this disease. Things to know. The Sun ☀️ is your enemy! Wear sunglasses at all times when outside. Next, our eyes cannot process vitamin A it turns to waste product that builds up in the eyes. Again she probably wont notice until a few years or even a decade from mow. She will still be able to live a normal life. Just has to be more aware of how her sight is being affected - especially if she has been driving. Oh and smoking cigarettes and doing drugs drastically increases the rate of degeneration.

Thanks for the info and optimism! Not sure if the difference in age makes a difference (I’m sure it does) but she’s quite a bit older than you.

Yeah that’s what is interesting about her case. Stargardts is a weird one though. It only affects the first born males in my family as long as both parents have two recessive genes (moms a carrier - dad had blue eyes) age will definitely be a factor to consider with her though. Idk how bad her eyesight is now, but it’s always a wise idea to take care of them in order to prevent the process as much as possible.

She is far from 20/20 vision but not completely blind by any means. She was diagnosed with macular degeneration 3 years ago but after seeing a retina specialist, they said it was Stargardt. So I assume she’s had it for about three years now and she’s definitely noticed a a change in her vision since then.
