Liquid Level Indicator (self.Blind)
submitted by Envrin

Stupid question, I know, but how exactly does this liquid level indicator work? I'm sure I'm not the only one that has one.

Bought one ages ago, but never needed it until now. We had a coffee maker where you just put one of thos little packs in the top, push the button, and the machine dropped 8 or 10 ounces into your cup. That broke though, so back to pouring coffee, and I brought my liquid level indicator out for the job.

Works great, except it doesn't shut up. I tried dring it off with a dish towel the best I could, but it just kept going. Not very nice when I'm awake at 5am, hours before anyone else. I ended up just taking out the batteries, and that did the trick.

Is there anything I'm missing here? Do I need to keep a blow dryer on hand, or something? That would make for an interesting conversation with the other folks in the house -- "why are you blow drying your coffee in the kitchen at 5am?", haha. Also, did they really need to make it sound like an annoying smoke alarm? Oh well, I think it was only $25, so not exactly a huge loss.

Would not buy.

A ping pong ball is a good cheap item to use as a liquid level indicator for hot drinks as well.

Thanks, that's an awesome idea! Will definitely use it, as already threw that level indicator thing in the garbage. What a piece of junk, but a ping pong ball would work perfectly. Thanks!

I think the idea is to pour slowly so the tines get wet but not the whole unit. it's supposed to shut up when towel-dried.
The models I've seen have an intermittent tone for one level and a constant one closer to a vessels brim (presumably for milk?).
I used one once, but prefer my ears. I've made countless morning drinks without any sight at all and am happy going entirely on sound now.

These seem kind of annoying. Agree with the other poster that you can make do with your ears, and I also stick my finger in and you can actually kind of feel how high it is from the heat even before you touch the hot water. You can also get a big coffee mug and just fill it part way, like half full or whatever, you're unlikely to spill and you'll get the amount you want.

I don’t like them either steam will also trigger them I have two and they never work for me I prefer a finger or touching hot stuff gently and intermitently.

Sounds like you have a defective one. Mine are great...as long as I get the liquid in the cup and not beside it. Which I do too often🤣

I think it has sensors that beep when they’re touched, pretty annoying but mine generally shuts up.
