Visually impaired with tinnitus (self.Blind)
submitted by GraySurveyor
I was born deaf in my left ear and at age 48, I lost the sight in my right eye due to NAION. I've always had tinnitus but it was faint and in the background. After losing the vision in my eye, tinnitus began to scream. So much that sometimes I can't keep up with a conversation. Does anyone else have this strange mix of issues?

I have a vestibular disorder, and I’ve noticed my tinnitus getting worse along with my vision going. The vestibular connection might be worth looking into, I’d recommend an ENT or possibly a neuro-ophthalmologist.

There are some meds which can help. I’ve personally had good results from Betahistine, it increases blood flow to the inner ear which has made the tinnitus far more manageable for me.

I’m not offering medical advice, but you may want to ask a doctor about some sort of neurological issue, as both of those things can be attributed to nerve issues.
