My name is Tres and I'm a college student in Texas! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa when I was around 11 years old. I go through unique struggles every day and I know you all do as well! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and a happy new year!

I'm trying to get used to being social more. I have partial vision loss during the day. The partial vision loss doesn't stop me from doing most things. but when it gets dark my vision is different. I have total night blindness which stops me from doing a lot. I have no confidence going out at night due to this condition. Which is super inconvenient since that's almost my only free time.
It's such a unique problem that most people don't even believe me when I talk about it. Half the people that know of my condition told me they honestly thought I was lying when they had first met me. It's really made me uncomfortable with telling people about my disorder. Which in turn confuses people when my problem becomes prevalent. suffice to say, it's been hard to make friends

Perhaps you can get mobility training for that and using a cane?

Hi Tres — Where in Texas? I lived in Houston for many years. Don’t miss it, to be honest. I’m an old woman with macular degeneration who still has a lot of sight. I hate to hear of such young people losing vision and yet I am also inspired by your stories. If you can handle it, I sure as hell can. Best to you.

I'm from East Texas. I've been to Houston a few times but I know the Dallas area a lot better. I really appreciate the support:)

My best friend from childhood is in Dallas. He worked for Newman Marcus for years and years.

Hey Tres, I’m brad from London and I have ROP.
tresgregory [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Hey Brad, it's awesome to meet you! I have been to London before and I loved it. I was only there for about a day, but I'm planning an in depth trip to Europe soon.
bradley22 2 points 2y ago
Cool but the UK isn’t part of the EU anymore.
tresgregory [OP] 2 points 2y ago
oh yeah i always forget that. I was there like six years ago when it was still a part of the Union. I was wondering how they were gonna keep Ireland connected to the southern jewels. I was in Ireland mostly while I was there and people seemed to be really worried about it.
bradley22 1 points 2y ago
I do to.

I think this brexit thing is bullshit but there's nothing I can do about it. To my shame I voted leave, but I only did that because if I didn't vote I was afraid my grandad would throw a hissy fit but no more, I won't vote unless I understand exactly what I'm voting for.

Hello Tres,
I‘m Ben from Germany. My RP was diagnosed fairly early on in my life. So although I am only 19 yrs old, I have have gone through many phases of grief, frustriation and acceptance concerning my eyesight. I KNOW the struggle you are talking about.

Nightblindness was also quite an issue for me back in school. When the time came where a lot people started going out/partIng I often stayed at home because I was anxious of being outside in the dark or in dimmly lit rooms. Two things that helped me overcome this was to a)developping a mindset of not caring and stressing about what other people think of think of me or my disability and b)to learn to use a cane. It might seem daunting at first but I can truly say that the benefits of using a cane in certain situations far outweigh the initial fear of being judged.
Just a few benefits:
-people offer help
-it‘s easier to explain your condition
-no more angry looks from people when you accidently bump into them in the dark
-more confidence and less stress
I‘d rather go out and have a blast using my cane when I need it rather than sit at home and feeling depressed or like I‘m missing out ;)

Hey trace how is it going? Welcome to the sub or well I guess maybe you’ve been around here now for a while but still welcome I am not newer I have been here on and off on several accounts. But yeah. Call me lupin if you want. Or sirius as long as I know you’re addressing me I am good.

I was thinking about moving to Austin but don’t have the finances. I would very much like to move but not sure where. I love the politics of texas and I love your senators and governor I think I am a fan of your governor. He’s really a star. I also love ted cruz. I was hoping the guy would win 2016 but of course cruz didn’t win and won reelection to the senate.

I live in Los angeles california. Been totally blind since I was 8, didn’t see much before and have peter’s anomaly. I live a very active and full and fulfilling life. Very active and physical. And stuff. The pandemic makes us all slow down but before I was hardly on the internet.

I am also currently still in college have been for 10 years now and currently study political science trying to see what I want to do next if I want to continue or get an assistive tech degree.

Hey there, I am Rory, and I love to make music. I have been blind since birth, with multiple conditions, one of which is so rare it hasn't even got a scientific name. In fact, I have got so many eye conditions I don't even remember which ones I have! But I hope you have a great holidays and a merry Christmas! :)
