Unfortunately, it is still only in stereo...

Yes exactly - why is this? I got myself a nice home cinema system but there's a lot of audio described content mixed in stereo only. Genuinely curious. Don't get me wrong I'm extremely grateful that these options are available for us but confused as to why a movie with 5.1 audio has the description track in stereo only. Maybe someone who works in the department would know....

Massive props to Netflix however, they offer the 5.1 audio description track on a lot of their content!

Never really been into star wars but this article is making me want to check this show out now. Seems to get a lot of good reviews.

Well, my best guess would be, that, at some point, there were made rules about how an audio description track should be. How low the volume of the actual movie or show should be during the narration and so on. At that time, 5.1 sound probably wasn’t such a big thing yet, so no one took it into consideration. When Netflix, and also recently Apple TV+ started doing audio description, 5.1 sound was already pretty common. So, I guess, for them it was just a normal thing, too have the audio description and 5.1.
I am not working in this department though. So, these are just wild guesses...

That's a good point and sounds about right. I've not tried apple TV+ yet. Is their description in 5.1? What would you recommend as a must watch?

Thanks for your reply

I don’t really know much about Apple TV+. But, since, apparently, it will come to Chromecast next year, I might give it a try.

It's actually in Dolby Atmos, which is even better.

Didn't know about that! It's a shame it's not available in Poland. I watched all episodes without any audiodescription.

I won't support Disney until they do at least 5.1 for their AD.

When they took over FOX even their AD dropped from 5.1 to 2.0.

Disney doesn't own Fox because they own ABC.
