Struggling with purpose (self.Blind)
submitted by MahinaK
Hey everyone, I am 22 and have progressive low vision due to Stargardtz ABCA4 and Cone Rod Dystrophy. I was 10 when I first started losing my sight, and it has been a journey. More and more lately I just cant help but feel like a burdon constantly. Do any of you have any tips and tricks on how to not feel like an inconvenience and a drain on those around you? Or to not feel like you're being taken advantage of because of your vision loss? I don't have any blind friends and charish the moments I get to talk with those I do know who are blind. I used to go to a blind school and I think now I'm starting to realize how important it is to be surrounded by people who understand you and can just feel... Equal. Thank you for letting me vent ❤️. It's been a hard few weeks.

This is very normal. You’re not alone!

I resonate alot with you. Even today, I still feel like a burden but it's slowly getting better. I would recommend talking it out with your parents (or whoever you feel like a burden to)

And try to be as independent as can be. Seek out additional mobility training if you ever feel uncomfortable.

PM me if you wanna talk. I have a very similar story to yours :)

I completely understand. I fear the day when my parents will be upset with me for how much they have to drive me around to places. I A) try not to think about it. B) Realize that they love me and that they love to take care of me, and C) Try to give back to them. Find a way to make it equal. Maybe you could make something? Cook a meal? Make decorations? Wash the dishes? Find a way to give back
