can someone help me instal ffmpeg on windows 10? (self.Blind)
submitted by bradley22
edit: thanks to a user, it's installed.

I follow the tutorials I read about but when I write ffmpeg into the command prompt, it doesn't recognise the file. I've tried adding the bin folder to the edit verriables but it doesn't seam to work.

Here's what I do: 1. go to start and type edit and press enter on edit the system environment verriables and press enter.

2. Tab to environment verriables and press enter.

3. find paph and tab to edit and press enter.

4. tab to new and press enter.

5. put c:\downloads\ffmpeg\bin and press enter then find ok and go into the command line, then I type ffmpeg and press enter, it doesn't work.

I just tried your exact steps and it worked for me.

I would suggest copying the ffmpeg executable out of your downloads folder. Windows may block executables from running in your downloads folder for some reason.

The default windows download directory is not "c:\\downloads\\ffmpeg\\bin" like you mentioned in your original post. Did you mean to add the path "C:\\Users\\bradley22\\Downloads\\ffmpeg\\bin" to your path instead?

Lol, I freaked out, I was like how does this person know my name! and then I remembered, oh yeah... It's, my username.

It worked, thanks! I had to move it out of downloads, it's now in documents.... Oh well; it works at least.

assuming you have admin rights, you could have just pasted into c:\windows and not screwed around with the env var stuff. just Fyi for next time.
of course you lose portability this way, if your documents is clouded somewhere. but still useful to know I think.
