That feeling when you know you're being watched/stared at... (self.Blind)
submitted by slippin_park
...do blind people get this feeling too?

I’m legally blind so I can’t see faces well, and I definitely cannot see where someone pupils are looking, period. I often see people who’s heads just happen to be turned in my direction, and I often think they’re looking at me when they’re actually not. So I guess yes, but also no?

Lmao. I wish the horror nights actors were allowed to be a little more verbal to scare us blind folks better.

😂 yes, I do feel it. However, I lost my sight totally at 22 years old. Since I can tell (at times) girls’ actual hair colouring. Like at Uni, I accurately told 15 girls their actual hair colour, but have noticed getting a lot more intuitive.

My brother does. When we go out somewhere he'll ask if someone is randomly staring, and they usually are. He knows when one of us in the house are staring too. It's been the weirdest thing to experience for him, he says.

Wehn the staring is the result of the context, yeah usually. When the staring is a random person in public a distance away looking at my guide dog or something, no. Though I assume people are pretty much always looking at the guide dog anyway so I generally assume someone is staring toward me in public.

By resulting from the context I mean mean like when someone is probably staring at me because they want something from me, I can feel it. For example, if someone wants to know where I was all day and they ask where I was but I just reply by saying “oh, I was out” then silence follows. I can feel them staring at me usually because they were expecting more information from me and still want that additional information. Or if someone is waiting on me to Finnish completing a task. I feel like I can feel their staring at me like “oh come on, hurry up”. So those situations where staring at someone is the socially normal thing to do, yeah I feel their stares. Same goes for people I live with too generally. Like if someone I live with just starts staring at me for no reason, I can usually feel it and ask them what they want which usually surprises them a little. But, in other situations like someone is far away in public, no I don’t feel those.

Yes but also no. I’m legally blind so I can see heads turning to me, but I don’t know if they’re actually staring at me.
