Are there any glasses that help with poor night vision? (self.Blind)
submitted by discountcouscous
Hey,

My girlfriend has a rare disorder (rod-cone dystrophy) and she has really poor night vision and I really wanna help her with that.

One thing I noticed is she uses her phone camera to look through it when we walk at night and I was wondering if there's some sort of electronic glasses or special lenses that would aid with seeing at night? Maybe glasses with a camera that project to the lenses or something? I'd love to get her a pair or something.

There are some glasses called OxSight being developed in the UK. They are being promoted to people with RP - which is a rod cone dystrophy. I don’t know how well they work in the dark - as essentially the technology is a camera on the glasses which projects a full image into your field of vision. So might not work very well in low light. And at the moment they are still quite new so the technology is still being honed. Also I think they’re in the region of £10,000 a pair. So very expensive. But they do sound like exactly what you’re describing - but I think the full usage - being able to work in low light and being affordable - is still quite a few years off. Have a look into them anyway. The feedback from people who have tried them is overwhelmingly positive.

I’m poor sighted in general myself and I get by with a flashlight and my hearing in most situations... maybe you’re overthinking it?

Maybe there’s something like that already but I sure as hell don’t know about it.

Hey! I have the same condition, and as far as I know there isn't . Other people have mentioned oxsight, I did I trial with them and honestly wasnt impressed. Very bulky, the field of view is really narrow and they cost thousands of pounds
For me, the best things are a bright flashlight, knowing the route well, and most importantly (and most difficult) is to tell your friends so they can help out - nothing better than my mate guiding me by my shoulder to avoid a parked car.
But I agree, a Google cardboard type thing that o could slot my phone into could be great !

nope, sadly I'm sure they don't exist yet. I have the exact same issue and I have been searching for years for a solution. The best thing to do is get a bright flashlight for her. Or talk to her about getting a white cane to move around better in the dark. I haven't taken this step yet, but I'm in the process. I've heard from many individuals with a night vision problem that using a white can bring great confidence when trying to get around.

Wouldn't getting her somthing like a flash light also work, I get it's not the same but camera glasses probably don't exist
