I've started watching Star Wars Rebels recently, but haven't gotten to that part yet. After season 1, I assume?

If never thought of Nick Fury as blind, but I guess he's missing an eye isn't he.

Here's a trailer about a blind detective series on Netflix. https://youtu.be/cb1GFEHhYr8

I have never not wanted to watch a show more so than I do now.

This is just horrible.

Blind person eats candy, blind person drinks a lot, blind person is detective, “comedy.”

I Wonder if the person playing the character is even blind.

I'm surprised that this trailer wasn't as bad as I thought.

For one thing, the show could still work if the main character weren't blind. She still half witnessed a murder and has no credibility. She's going to use the tools at her disposal to solve it.

A second point to consider is that blind people get to be terrible people too. There's a long standing tradition of treating disabled people as either inspiring heroes or helpless innocent cherubs - she's neither and that's a nice change of pace.

Otherwise, the finer points really missed the mark. She gets out of bed and starts flailing her arm arm around. Protective technique anybody? Producers routinely for firearms instructors to make their shows realistic, why not get an O&M instructor for this?

Also, I didn't notice this, but it was point out to me that the actors' names are worked out in Braille. Gee, thanks - that's very helpful.

That's what I was thinking. Being blind doesn't make you all zen or whatever.
bradley22 2 points 2y ago
Yeah you make some great points.

I won’t be watching it but someone will enjoy it.

To be fair, I didn't expect much from the CW anyway, but experimentation is important. Maybe next time they'll do better.

In the dark (the CW version) has a blind main character who basically gets thrown into a murder investigation and caught up in crime. It's a really fun watch

Growing up Fisher was a fun short lived sitcoms starring JK Simmons.
Revenant624 3 points 2y ago
I believe that show was actually based on a real person. It sucked it was canceled rather quickly.
Bobtownee 2 points 2y ago
I'm pretty sure it was. Fun show.

It’s not much of a character but the guy who’s Jodie Foster‘s buddy in contact is the one who actually hears the harmonics of the alien signal. He’s blind. He’s only in like two or three scenes. So there’s that

Title character in Jennifer Eight, played by Uma Thurman. Mainly a murder mystery. Andy Garcia's character is a detective investigating a series of murders and has to save her. The movie is OK but she's kind of helpless.

Madeleine Stowe's character in Blink. Gets her sight back as part of the plot but it's actually handled okay. Quite like her.

Alicia Witt's character in Mentalist.

Clea DuVall's character in an episode of Lie To Me. Bit helpless, not completely. Clea had prosthetic scar pieces over her eyes for some scenes, so she played at least some of it actually without being able to see.

Elizabeth Hartman's character in A Patch Of Blue. Okay for the time, really a civil rights movie.

And how can we forget Zatoichi!

Damn there was a good horror movie (late phases) where the protagonist was blind and had to uncover who the werewolf was terrorizing a retirement home. He was salty

Late phases was the title. The fact he was bit grumpy was a neat touch. What I liked was he loved his guide dog, fiercely independent, used his sense of smell and hearing to pick up on things. Used touch to load a gun. The only thing that bugged me was how he used the cane. It was sloppy.

The Fault in Our Stars has Isaac, and he’s pretty funny.

There was a show back in the '90s about a guy who got a mysterious newspaper with tomorrow's headlines, I don't remember the name but one of the characters was blind.
