I'm partially sighted and am reintroducing myself to braille for ergonomic reasons after having used print since 3rd grade.
So far I really like the new UEB as far as general text goes. It's nice to have indicators for text formatting and proper bracket symbols. However, reading around the web, I get the impression that not everyone is a fan of the more technical side of UEB.
For those of you who rely more exclusively on braille and use math regularly, I'd like to know what you prefer. It seems like Nemeth is more compact, but UEB is more consistent, but it looks like there isn't a ton of material available in either Nemeth or UEB.

I think it’s personal preference and which you are use to or if you like to change and learn something else.

I can't work in anything other than UEB when coding, or doing proofs with a sighted audience. So despite its clutter, the consistency and immediate braille-display translation is a plus ( or perhaps a ⠐⠖) for me.

UEB is very cluttered. Nemeth is good, but you won't be getting any real-time text translation out of it with a Braille display.

This is a great question and honestly, it varies a lot by state and personal preference. About half the states teach Nemeth and half teach UEB math, and a lot of people have a lot of opinions about which is better (which means neither one can be TERRIBLE, right?). If you're planning on learning one for a purpose (ex: to learn coding, or to learn calculus from a specific book) I would pick which code that book is in.

It is also my impression that Nemeth is more compact (In the sense that fewer cells are required on average), but UEB is more universally consistent and debatably easier to understand.

I am curious as well. I haven't had to deal with braille math since I graduated college in 2011, and I remeber when I went through the UEB course from the Hadley School that it mentioned something about some countries using UEB for Math.

Yep, for example; here in the UK we use UEB for maths. I've not used the other version at all.
