I made a past a while back about a web based application and I want to thank the people who helped me.
I understand there are braille watches as well as a watch which uses a ball and follows the circumference of the watch.
What I want to know is if you wear a watch, what type of watch do you use? and why?
BenandGracie3 points2y ago
I wear a braille watch because I hate talking watches. You can't check one at a meeting or family function without someone noticing.

What would you say to watch that used pins to rise from the surface and displayed something similar to a digital watch?
Essentially it'll be similar to a braille watch but people who weren't visually impaired could also use it as well. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about a talking function as you can easily read the time displayed.

How would I read 3 AM on the watch you’re describing? Also what kind of price would we be looking at?
Broken-Bold [OP]1 points2y ago
3am would be displayed as 03:00 The clock would be 24 hour Allowing you to easily understand what's AM and PM
Price wise I'm not sure but honestly I don't like placing a high price on a watch. What would you be willing to pay?
I would aim for it to be £75 or under.

There’s much better methods and for that price it’s not that possible and there are already great solutions.
bradley221 points2y ago
I don’t ware watches but that sounds like a good price range.
How will a blind person use the watch? If it’s a 24 hour watch, how will we know it’s 13:00 and not 1 in the morning?

I’m using my phone as a watch

I use apple watch 4. I like that I can swim with it on my wrist, I like haptic time telling and I run, so it helps me with my trainings. I use ismoothrun app for running and it's awesome. You can check heart rate, pace, distance, altitude, you can set up your own training programs, and it gives you spoken information every 1 kilometer or every 10 minutes, depends on your settings.

That sounds amazing and really versatile. Thank you for the comment. The watch I'll be designing wouldn't able to be used as a fitness watch but I can create a model which used one.
Secondly I'll ensure the one is waterproof for swimming and able to be used whilst swimming.

Apple Watch on the daily. Eone Bradley when I want to dress things up a little.
Broken-Bold [OP]2 points2y ago
Can I ask why you prefer a Eone Bradley watch to a braille watch? I understand that you said it's useful for when you want to dress up.
Secondly, I see that the Apple watch uses Mose code and talking functions. How easy is it to set up the watch?
Laser_Lens_42 points2y ago
Never used a Braille watch, but I don't want to fiddle around with those annoying cover things or what have you. With the Bradley, I just feel out the time.

As for the Apple Watch, it's pretty easy to set up, so long as you connect it to a 2.4GHz network. Apple fixed a lot of my grievances in the latest watchOS update.
Broken-Bold [OP]1 points2y ago
That's all good, thank you for the advice as that'll be very useful to me. I'll see if I can do something extra with the watch so it isn't just about touch or having a cover to okay with to know what time it is.

I use an Apple Watch. It’s the same price as fancy braille watches like the Dot and is WAY more functional.
AchooCashew2 points2y ago
I love being able to get the time haptic-tapped in Morse code from my Apple Watch.
Broken-Bold [OP]1 points2y ago
When you say Mose code, do you mean it vibrates the dots and dashes ?
That's pretty cool but as the price of said watch is high. Would you use a less expensive watch that did more or something equal?
AchooCashew2 points2y ago
Yeah! Just like you would hear them, only in vibration. Short for dots, longer for dash.
I don’t know if this feature existed when I first got my watch in 2018. I only discovered it recently. I certainly didn’t buy it just for that, haha.
Broken-Bold [OP]1 points2y ago
I'll see if I can incorporate that into my model. Would be nice to have different methods of knowing the time.
KillerLag2 points2y ago
The watch that uses the ball bearings is the Eone Bradley watch.

Thank you for the link, they look really slick and nice. Why do you prefer eones watches?
KillerLag1 points2y ago
I'm sighted, I work with people with vision loss. I only know one person who has one, and it was a gift (the watch is not cheap). Most of my clients use their smartphones, or use a talking watch. A few use Apple watches as well.
Bookjeans2 points2y ago
I’ve had a braille watch and a braille/talking watch. I preferred the braille and talking watch because I could decide which function I wanted to use. I’ve seen the watch you mention with the ball that goes around the circumference and it seems quite interesting.
Broken-Bold [OP]1 points2y ago
What specific model do you use ? I'm curious about these talking braille watches as I wanted to create a watch with a panic button function.

I love my apple watch serves as both a watch and a exercise band.
