Can someone please help me sync an audio description track with a movie I really want to watch? (self.Blind)
submitted by poochbrah
Edit - I found a solution to this thanks to the kind people below. I made an account with express vpn and found the movie with audio description on the Brazil Netflix.

You can use this website https://unogs.com/ to find movies on Netflix and see the audio languages available. It will tell you which countries have it on their Netflix then you should use the vpn service to connect to that country.

Below is my original post.

A few days ago I had the pleasure of watching the godfather part 1 thanks to amazon prime who seemed to be the only place offering audio description for the movie. Needless to say, what an amazing film! I now really want to see part 2 but I can't find it with audio description anywhere. If you know a place that has it with audio description please stop reading the rest of my post and comment below!

Below is about me finding the audio part of the movie and wanting help on how to sync it.

I have a blu ray of the godfather part 2 which I've transferred over to my laptop. The length of the movie is 3 hours 22 mins and 6 seconds.

I have downloaded the audio description track from audio vault but it is 3 hours 10 mins and 58 seconds.

I've problem is that it slowly gets put of sync as the movie goes on ruining my experience. I want the audio to match the video as closely as possible 1 second out of sync is not an issue however.

I've tried playing the video through vlc media player and using the file from audio vault as the audio track but it quickly gets out of sync. I determined there was a 19 second delay by matching the godfather theme song on the original video and the audio description file. But still after a few minutes it becomes out of sync and then the audio description is about 10 seconds in front of the video.

I've also tried playing the audio description track from my phone and playing the original audio on the pc but again it slowly goes out of sync.

My first solution was to slow the audio description track down but I'm not sure by how much and when I do it the voices start sounding distorted.

I hope someone can help here as I think a lot of us use audio description but realise this is quite a specific case.

If you have any ideas or know where I can post this to get help please let me know.

My guess would be that the blue ray and descriptive audio track are from different edits of the movie. According to IMBD There are quite a few alternate versions from 175 minutes to 235 minutes. The theatrical version was 202 minutes, the "Special Edition" version is 220 minutes. It also appears that scenes were reordered in some cases.

You will probably have to find the same edit as the audio vault descriptive track if you want a perfect match.

I think you're right that didn't cross my mind. I've just tried watching the version I have pausing and playing everytime it goes out of sync but it's too difficult to follow. I'll try to contact someone at the audio vault to ask them which edit they used. Next mission is going to be finding that specific edit....

... I might just have to listen to the audiobook of the godfather and watch the movies without audio description. But let's not lose hope just yet.

Thanks but this is exactly what I downloaded and am having the issue with. Thanks anyway. I'm going to try to use a vpn to change region to access it on Netflix from my nvidia shield

This most likely means that the AD track is 25 FPS while the Bluray is 24FPS.

Depending on your region, Netflix has all three Godfather movies with AD tracks. Watch them there?
SightlessBastard 2 points 2y ago
This.
It could also be, that the version from the vault is a TV-recording, which means that it could have been broadcasted even faster. Also, the endcredits might be missing.
Do you know by any chance, in which country Netflix still has the movies?

According to unogs:

$1

$1

$1

All three seem to be available in different regions. 2 and 3 only got AD added recently.

Thanks for the links. Now I just need to figure out, where the movies are available. They don’t seem to be available in my country, neither in the US.

Thanks I didn't know Netflix had them in other revisions. I am in the UK. What region will I need to vpn to to be able to watch them?

This would make sense re the fps. How would I change the fps of the audio file? I'm sure there's a setting somewhere I'll have a look just now. I'm using vlc media player.

Without knowing the source of the audio file, it is nearly impossible to do that. At least, an an automated process. You could skip to the end of the file, and see, if the credits are there. If you really wanna sync it, I recommend you to use audacity. You could also have to extract the audio from your video. Then, you could open both files in audacity, and see, if you can sync it somehow. Provided of course, the end credits exist in the audio description. If they don’t exist, well, you could try copying them from the audio file of the original video. This however is kind of complicated, since you would have to calculate the discrepancy between the original audio and the audio description somehow.
Alternatively, you could try to figure out, where exactly the audio description ends, and then take that length from the original video, to slow down the audio description file.

Thank you for your reply. It does seem more complicated than it's worth especially now that someone has said it's available on Netflix in another region. I'm going to try to figure out how to use a vpn to change location on my nvidia shield

Wow I didn't know. Its not on UK Netflix. Which region has it? I could try vpn or something

Doesn’t the track from the vault already have the movie mixed in?
