Random question but are blind people exempt from picking up their seeing-eye dogs’ poop?(self.Blind)

We have our ways and do the best we can! Guide dogs are trained to relieve themselves on a number of different surfaces on command (grass, cement, sand, etc.). I couldn't imagine anyone just walking away and not making an effort, but I believe there is leeway in dog pickup laws to allow for mistakes/missing a bit, or times where you just can't find it no matter how long you try (I've been there at least once).
Edit to add: It's so much easier to find on a cement surface vs. in the grass.

Oo I’m glad they are so well trained
I just hope they don’t get constipated from holding it too long :-/
I don’t like dogs but I feel sorry for them in that they have to stay home all day until their owners get home. I don’t understand why there aren’t litter boxes for dogs

Thanks for your detailed answer. Also, how do blind people tell when their dog is sick/has fleas etc. since they can’t see it? How do they take it to the vet?

In the United States I believe it depends on where you live. Though everyone should pick up after the dogs. It is very easy to do. As someone that has a seeing eye dog we were taught how to do it. When a dog peas it is different from when he poops. When the dog is going to the bathroom and he is peeing his back is straight and when he poops his back arches. So when his back arches you take your left foot and pointing it in the direction the hind end of the dog and nine out of 10 times the poop will be directly in front of your left foot and you pick it up. So there’s no excuse why someone cannot pick up the dog poop whether they’re blind or not. I guess the only caveat would be if the person has some sort of physical disability besides being blind

As a two time guide dog owner it is my firm belief that you should never use your blindness to excuse yourself from picking up after your dog. Every school will show you how to do this effectively and while you may not be able to do it 100% the times because some dogs have a terrible habit of walking while pooping you should at least make the effort. In short, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to pick up after our dogs even if we can’t see

Depends on legistlation.
In the Finnish legistlation the answer is no. In the 2003 our law makers decided in their infinite wisdom that even the blind owners are required to pick up after their dogs.
The guide dogs are however exempt from being on leash in built-up areas. In addition, the blind owner doesn't have to make sure that their unleashed guide dog doesn't have access to public running and ski tracks, playgrounds, beaches, market places and sports fields.
So yeah, in Finland you are allowed to let your guide dog roam freely and without leash in a golf field, as long as you make sure you pick up after it!
Something about this law makes me think it was not designed for the guide dogs, but for the other working dogs such as rescue dogs and guard dogs. Yet, the law still explicitly says that in addtion those working dogs, the law also applies to the guide dogs.

what's funny is I was seriously wondering about that recently. I mean they sure couldn't do anything if you think you picked it up and didn't because that would be discrimination, seems to me. lol. But this is one thing I have worried about in case I get a dog is I may not be able to see to pick it up, since I am legally blind.

I wonder if seeing-eye dogs can be trained to poop in places that people are less likely to step? Or if you could ask for someone’s help?
Maybe there is a special class you can take when you get a seeing-eye dog?
If it will help you, you should get one. They are some of the best behaved dogs I’ve seen and I’m a person that doesn’t like dogs.

They do! The dogs are trained to potty on command and you can feel along their back if they’re hunched, which indicated pooping. Point your foot towards their bum and when they finish put your hand in a bag and feel around near your foot!

Best effort. Blind people sometimes miss. So there may be poop that’s not collected but it would be irresponsible and unethical not to pick up poop and bad manners. However, law mostly says in the US yes, but best effort if the blind person misses a smudge of poop you can’t blame them. Is it okay to say I give up I don’t pick up any, best effort probably people would say that’s screwed up but within reason errors are possible.
