Monitor size for working from home with impaired vision(self.Blind)
submitted by verruckt12
Hi, I'm blind in one eye, and have pretty decent vision if wearing a strong contact lens in my other eye (-11). A bit of missing vision field but not too bad. I currently am working from home at the computer all day. My current work setup is a 15" laptop on the side and a 27" monitor in front of me. I've been noticing I recently have had to reduce screen resolution more - currently at 1600x900 on the 27". I'm thinking I might be better off with a 32" monitor or larger but wanted to get people's experiences. I know a guy at work who has a 49" curved monitor but I don't think that would help me due to the single eye vision. I was hoping to hear some experiences from people - if there's any downside to a larger monitor - maybe neck related if I end up moving my head more to see everything?
Thanks in advance for any advice

I have 2 27 inch monitors which work very well for me. Instead of adjusting resolution and getting a bigger monitor have you tried using magnification software such as zoomtext or even the built in magnifier? I could not use my computer at all without the software.

just tried some of the zoom tools on the Mac. Seems like overkill I think. I'm not so far off from being able to use the 27" at low-ish resolution and the zoom goes too far. I could add a second monitor and might as the 15" laptop screen is harder and harder to use even with the resolution turned down on it

On Mac, you can increase and decrease the zoom. Just use option, command + or -. And option, command 8 to zoom enable and disable zoom. Make sure it’s enabled in accessibility.

Work issued us with 14 inch laptops when we went to home working. I've plugged it into my 32 inch TV and use that as my screen. Need to play around with using both as we have 2 monitors in the office and I find I'm more effective with 2 screens, but I can't use the laptop without getting an eye strain headache. Just have to figure out what I can zoom in enough on to use on the smaller screen.

I opted for 34" curved widescreen, it's a single monitor but easy enough to dock windows on the right/left side as needed. I have to move my head quite a bit (one eye and not much peripheral left) but I like it better than having a discontinuity in the middle, even if it's just a small bezel.

I’m in a similar situation. Blind in one eye and glasses for my other. I have a 27” for most things I leave at 1080. I have a 24” next to it in portrait mode. I can move documents to the 24” for easier reading since the portrait mode fits a regular page better.
