A small handful of years older than you here. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. I personally never had to lose sight, (or at least not that I can remember), but everything you feel is valid and your struggles are real. I too felt very alone before coming to Reddit. I didn’t make any friends really, but I did find people who were like me and that gave me comfort and more pride than I could ever describe. Even when you might feel alone away from Reddit, remember that you’re not. Reddit and YouTube and whatever else is still real life and we’re all here thriving all across the world. I welcome you here with hugs

No thank you, I’m a little too embarrassed.

You should really look into blindness support organizations. Most states have a government group whose job is helping blind people. You can start doing the planning and research now, making it that much easier when your sight gets bad enough that you'll really need to learn how to do things without sight. Cane use, accessibility on computers, maybe even braille. The more you can set up now, the easier your life will be later. Note that I'm talking about the United States, but many countries have similar setups.

I actually have an upcoming appointment for orientation and mobility training.

That's great! Getting ahead of the training and other changes you will encounter is the best thing you can do. Well, that and trying to stay positive. I know how stupid that sounds, not to mention how cliche, but it's true.

Hello!

If it helps, I have a buddy called Lizzie who's in kind of a similar situation, though a bit further down the road than you. She has retinitis pigmentosa and it happened really fast. You're definitely not the only person.

I guess the best thing to say is that there's no magic trick for it but there are a massive number of small things you can do that make life easier. I always start off with young people by asking people what they want to with their lives, and don't automatically discount anything, you'll figure out most stuff. Maybe that's starting too fast but I always think there's no time to lose, it's a process and you may as well get started.
