Blind accessible video games? (self.Blind)
submitted by CharlieH96
I have friend who’s visually impaired we frequently play strategy games on my PC. We play together by me explaining what’s happening and us both making decisions. He would really like to know if their are any good visually impaired accessible strategy games he could play.

As with many topics on this sub, it depends on the person's level of sight. I have low vision and use a screen magnifier for computer accessibility.

For strategy games, I've really enjoyed the Sid Meier's Civilization series. Specifically the latest entries, V and VI. The fact that Civ games are turn based (as opposed to real-time) is the key, since the player can take as long as they need to make decisions.

Thanks you for the reply. My friend has near zero visibility a screen magnifier would not work. And yes I agree strategy games like Civilisation are what he’s into. We were hoping to find some games that are similar or have mods that allow some sort of voice over feature.

More of an interesting concept than a fully fleshed out game, but may want to check out "Blind Trust". (Older; mixed reviews; local LAN only). Designed to be played with two players: one that relies on vision but can't hear, one that can't see and relies on sound.

Real sound: Kaze no regret, just saw a post on another reddit sub about it today, designed by a sega designer purposely for the blind in the 90s and still available supposedly

There's also the ancient (but long lived) world of MUDs and their like. They've always been text only and some have supposedly made pretty good hooks for information flow beyond just screen reading. While its a RPG focus rather than strategy, this four year old $1 might be worth a look to get started learning. There used to be MUDs for everything. Back in the early '90s I learned about MUDs from a book I checked out from the library, but I realize that is no longer the way. Google will be your further guide.

You 2 can make an account here$1It's a platform for card and board games, some strategy, some not. But there are games like Connect4, Reversi, Chess and such. Check it out if that's what you're into.

If you're playing with 2 different accounts on the same computer, he can play on the QC desktop client with 1 account, and you can play on the web browser with the other account, since the client is more blind friendly than the website.
Edit: Oh sry my bad, misread the videogames as just blind accessible strategy games.

My partner is visually impaired and we were able to play Hue together because of how much contrast there is. It was so much fun. We're trying to find more games so I'll follow this thread. 😀
