Through charity, i support a fully blind young man (he is around 25y/o) monthly. My mom is going to visit him next week and i want to give him some presents, but i have no clue what i could or should gift him. Do you guys have any recommendations?
Edit: i forgot to add that it cant be too big since her luggage weight is limited.
Another edit: I didnt want to mention it but i think i should, the person who the gift is for is a poor orphan (hes currently 25years old but grew up without parents) with no family from a third world country who lives in a shelter/school dedicated to blind people... im searching for something helpful or something he could have fun with longterm!
Thanks!

I mean this all really depends on what this person likes and the things they already have. Like buying gifts for a blind person doesn’t have to be that hard. If you know them well enough, it shouldn’t be too difficult but I have a list for ya. If he doesn’t have a lot of “things for the blind” a good starting point is braille playing cards, signature guide, braille can labels, braille labeler, tactile stickers (often called bump dots), puffy paint, mancalla (the game). I would want, Uber eats/door dash gift card, face coverings, fingerless gloves, yoga mat, different shapes of Tupperware/other food storage that’s an odd shape for easy recognition, fun shaped fridge magnets, and houseplants. The best gift I’ve gotten for a long long time is a robot vacuum. I hope this helps

I dont know him too well personal, (edit i added to my post) the person who the gift is for is a poor orphan with no family from a third world country who lives in a shelter/school dedicated to blind people... i think he doesnt own any universal design products, thats why im searching for something helpful or he could have fun with longterm! But braille playingcards sounds fun!! Thank u!

You’re welcome! If he lives in a shelter some s”sock sorters”would be good or something that can signify his stuff is his like a pendant that can be attached to clothes. And possibly some sort of soft animal toy. Good luck! Edit. I’ve heard of some sort of toy/stuffie that can also hold items. That might be really useful for him.

No tech: A safety vest/biker vest. It gets dark quickly around this time of year, and safety is a must. A backpack. I’m always gifting backpacks to blind friends, and they seem to appreciate it. The need to travel on public transit or take stuff in the car and keep stuff sorted makes them a must. Low-tech: a power bank. A blind persons smart phone is a little more essential than a sighted person. Remote assistance apps, GPS apps, and ride share. Keeping the phone charged can be difficult with multiple apps in use. A power bank/portable external battery is really helpful when you get those low battery alerts. Bonus: they have backpacks that let you keep the power bank inside, and a USB port on the outside. Letting you use the power bank while charging your phone, and keeping the power banks safe. Blindness specific: bump dots to put on things for easy labeling, braille playing cards, or maybe a talking bedside alarm clock. To keep your phone off or not worrying about battery lasting throughout the night. Hi tech: bone conduction headphones, to use a phone or other device while out and about and not worrying about your ears being covered. A robot vacuum, and a braille watch.

Dark chocolate might be good. Good chocolate can be hard to come by in poorer countries (suggesting dark because it’s less likely to melt in the heat than milk chocolate).

Hope you found something but if you’re still searching and they have batteries over there maybe a bop it. Just a random idea haha!

Are you 100% sure that this person exists? I was just reading stories about 'sponsorship' charities not being legitimate in their operations, so I'm hesitant...
Haha yes! Since its a charity my mom organized, she goes once a year to the villages her organisation funds/helps. My mom will be visiting again soon, she vlogs and sends me everything and will hand my gift personally to him. I also get videos and pictures once in a while so im pretty sure its legit but thanks for your concern!

Ah okay, that's a relief!

I also went once together with my mom a couple years ago. She met the people from the shelter a year ago through a local close friend. My mom will meet and visit them for the first time this year. Thats why i want to make a personal "gift-set" and asked for help!

The perfect gift would be a floor vacuum or ebook, but if you want something cheaper what about some Uber eats giftcards, or amazon gift cards
