Blind Podcasters, Where Do You Host Your Podcasts, And Which Ones Would You Recommend? (self.Blind)
submitted by BrighidBlindBard

Hello there everybody!

I'm looking to talk with and ask questions with anyone who is blind and podcast. I'm trying to get into podcasting, but I'm not quite sure where I should podcast at.

So far, the three most accessible places I've found to host my podcast are Anchor, Podbean, and Soundcloud...To be honest, I know they have some accessibility problems, and I have personal issues in one form or another with each one of these options.

I'm planning on recording and submitting my podcast once I get it up and running via my Iphone SE20, recording with Samsung Meteor Micvia the JockBock and Backpack programs.

Do any of you podcast at any of the platforms I mention? Would you recommend any or all of them? Why or why not?

What about Libsyn? I've heard about it but I can't find one piece of information about wherever or not it's accessible, especially with Voice Over.

Thanks!

I am thinking of anchor I created a new account right now I do it on youtube. I have a channel.

I use anchor. I like that one because it pretty much takes all the hard work out of it as far as distribution and that kind of stuff goes. The hardest thing you have to do is plan and record. It does read all of your audio through the earpiece when she start recording, which I find frustrating with any app. I think that one would probably be your best bet.

I host my podcast with Podbean. I’ve never had any major accessibility issues and when I have, their tech-support has been really good at resolving them. I would reach out to them using their Facebook group, it’s called Podcasting Smarter. When they introduced a new interface that gave me problems with publishing for example, I contacted them and their tech-support reverted my account back to the old interface so I could use it. So yeah, I think they’re really good.

Hmm, I've never heard of that group before, but I just joined it today. Thank you for mentioning it!

I'm considering Podbean a great deal, though my girlfriend has been trying to convience me to host it on Anchor.

My only real issue with Podbean is the confusion of the layout of the site and occasionally being unable to upload via the App.

I will admit, I think I’ve only used their app to upload audio maybe once. They have someone who is part of customer relations in that group though and she’s very responsive, so I would bring up any issues/questions you might have in there. I know Anchor is free and that’s obviously a big bonus but I have no experience with them unfortunately. Just out of curiosity, is there any microphone you use with your iPhone specifically? I use a Zoom H6 recorder when recording with my wife, but I’ve been looking at different setups that will allow me to record by myself.

Check out Pinecast. They have a free starter plan where you can test out the interface and see if it is accessible using VoiceOver. I haven't had any issues with them on desktop.

No thank you, I think I'll give that a pass.
ErtaySh 1 points 2y ago
Why? Did you try it out?
Fireteddy21 1 points 2y ago
Adding to this, I’m pretty sure that Podbean has a free starter plan as well.

Libsyn is great. I recommend it, though it's been a while since I've had to use it. I do like that they reset your posting quota monthly.

I'm curious about the gear you're using to record. Can you tell me more about that JokBock and Backpack program you mentioned? Super interested in doing a podcast straight from an iphone.

I've heard about Libsyn, though I can't for the life of me find any information on how accessible it may or may not be. I'm aware some blind and visually impaired people podcast through it, I just can't find anything on it's accessibility.

Both recording apps are made by the same company. I personally prefer Backpack, which I think it runs about ten bucks. But the quality is pretty good, controls are pretty easy and straight forward in my mind...Only real criticism I have against it is how irritating the mixer can be at times.

Thanks. I'll try it out.
