Looking for help developing an app (self.Blind)

Hello, we are Oregon State second year engineering students, starting an app development on assisting visually impaired folks navigating in-door spaces (which Google Maps can’t reach). We are looking for people willing to talk to us about your experiences navigating around in-door spaces, existing solutions you use, difficulties, technologies used etc.
ps: in-doors spaces include shopping malls, amusement parks, college buildings/classrooms/campuses, workspace etc. Basically anywhere Google Maps and related tech don’t usually map.

There is a lot of existing research and development around indoor wayfinding technology that you may want to look into.

Check out GoodMaps Explore a project that started at the American printing house for the blind, but is now a separate company. GoodMaps.com they are doing camera assisted indoor navigation. Also check out the app Clew, which allows the user to record Indoor Maps that it can then prompt you along based on camera and motion sensors.

Personally, I managed to find a really savvy and technologically cutting edge way to handle these instances.

I stand there and in a cheerful voice yell out, "blind guy, needs help!", then wait about 3 to 10 seconds. Ok, maybe not the most technologically advanced way, or very innovative at all, but hey, it works like a charm.

Thinking about it, back when I could see I always used to be the guy who would never ask for help, because I can do it myself god damnit! I was one of those guys. Wow, going blind tends to change that little issue in a hurry, as I have no shame at all anymore asking for help, haha.

Apologies, and honestly don't mean to be demeaning or anything. I'm just in a weird mood. All the best with your app though, and hope it turns out great.

There is already a lot of research into this, using a variety of tech. Microsoft has an app that is trying to identify the contents of rooms, and other devs are working on using precise GPS, or LiDAR cameras to gauge distance and identify objects
