Need help shaving. Any good electric razor recommendations?(self.Blind)
submitted by baredevilmattmurcock
Soooo I am a sis gendered male who grows facial hair and is blind and if I leave the house or just a random times I prefer to be clean shaven but obviously it’s a bit scary and dangerous using a regular metal like blade razor occasionally every now and then I will bring it out just to shave the mustache area or between the brows but for the rest of my face I’m not comfortable enough and I never pressed hard enough with the razor to get all the hair and I tend to leave a lot behind. So eventually my dad got me an electric razor from Walmart which I still use this day and I’m currently trying to use it right now and it works all right but when I use it if I’m using it before like going out with friends or whatever I have to wake up extra early to make sure I have like plenty of time to shave because it just takes so long. Because it heats up very quickly and while it works all right there are a few spots where it doesn’t do as great of a job such as my Jolle line and then on my neck and the chin and under the chin area and then the mustache. I suppose maybe it could just be the blades are getting doll but I’m not sure. It also has a pretty big issue of pulling and ripping out facial hair which is obviously painful and I know most electric razors do that but I was just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for good electric razors that are easy to use and safe for blind people. And sorry I don’t know the brand of the one I have now or name or anything. But please feel free to leave your recommendations in the comments thank you

I use Harry's normal razors and shave in the shower. Put on a lot of cream and use your hands to feel what you need to do. I used to shave every day (now I don't go into the office so I'm a slob) and it would take me about 8 minutes, so probably kind of slow but not a big deal. First shave with the grain of the hair, then shave at a diagonal to the grain, and then if you need to go carefully against the grain of the hair. By the grain I mean the direction the hair naturally faces, like if you have a mustache you want to shave away from the nose first, then at a diagonal, and then toward the nose. I'd get such a close shave that my friends thought I couldn't grow a beard.

I actually do have a Harry’s razor and the shaving cream to and I do really like them because they work really well and you’re really honestly right they get such a close good shave it looks like you just aren’t able to grow any facial hair😂. Guess I’ll just have to work up the courage to really go for and try try

Just take your time, do it in the shower where you won't make a mess, and try doing it every day for awhile, since the second day is kind of easy mode as you touch up, and you tend to get a bit better if you do it every day as opposed to once a week or whatever. Good luck!

my spouse is also blind and on blood thinners so no blades for him. He uses a Braun Series 7 wet/dry shaver that gets him almost as smooth as a blade. It is pricey, but it's self cleaning and that's a plus for you as well. It's worth it. FWIW he is also bald and shaves his head and face with it a couple/few times a week.

God yeah the idea of using a real razor and cutting myself it’s so scary I wouldn’t know what to do. But thank you so much for the suggestion I will have to check it out

The NY mag article posted here by /u/TwoSunsRise recommends the two brands (Philips and Braun) I would suggest starting with.
I have had a Philips rotary for over a couple of decades and have replaced the blades on it and replaced another part that broke when it was dropped.
I like the Philips as they are very comfortable to hold and the batteries hold a charge for a long time on my model. A quick clean is easy, flip the top open and rinse under a tap, wipe off excess water then leave to dry on its stand. Thorough cleaning can be fiddly as there are the rotary blades are small parts that need to be saved from going down the sink and need proper alignment to reposition.
I bought a Philips for vwlsmssng-senior when he was in his Nineties and losing his sight and strength. He liked it and just needed some help cleaning out properly.
When buying look out for special offers. Electric razors, like electric toothbrushes, seem to have inflated regular prices interspersed by massive discounts of up to 50%. At least in the UK this happens.

I'm not sure what sis gender is but if you have facial hair then you can look at the link below. A blind guy I know uses the first one which is the Philips Norelco and he likes it.
