Are many blind people offended by the term "blind playthrough?" (self.Blind)
submitted by [deleted]
Twitch has banned the term because they say it's offensive to blind people to call a playthrough of a game blind.

I was wondering what actual blind people's thoughts were on it since most the discussion is done by people who can see.

More offensive that a group of sighted people got together to decide what blind people do or do not find offensive. \*shrug\*

If Twitch wants to help blind people (dubious), they can work harder on their accessibility. But that's more than two lines of code and a tweet.

It's less "thats offensive" and more "how am I supposed to indicate that I am a blind streamer without being lumped together with people doing initial unspoiled playthroughs?"

I’m not and think it’s stupid that no one in their business asked us what we want.

Agreed with above, not offended by it because it totally make sense with concept. More offended when people make jokes that people who are blind can’t be gamers.

So it is another example of a company trying to help but missing the key point.

This was asked about before, nobody cares.

I am not. The term makes enough sense and it’s not being used in an offensive manner.

Do you understand how other blind people could be offended by it?
BlindBlades 3 points 2y ago
People can be offended by whatever they choose. I’m more concerned with behavior that is intended to be offensive than I am with people who find offense where none is intended, particularly when the term is accurate to its meaning. Blind people don’t have a monopoly on the use of the word in this sense.

Thanks.

What? Why would anyone be offended by that? It’s like asking is a blind date offensive language or something like that. I am more amused then anything else.

I think Twitch goes overboard on the wrong things and doesn’t react to the things that they really should act on. They need to work on accessibility before they worry about what’s offensive and not.
