Recruiting for a study about the accessibility of navigation in virtual 3D environments for people with visual impairments. Ideally looking for screenreader users! (self.Blind)
submitted by Ten086
Hey everyone! I've posted a few times before here. I'm sighted but am hoping to learn more about accessibility, and I'm seeking out help for a study related to accessibility.

I'm one of two student researchers from the Enhancing Ability Lab at Cornell Tech. We’re studying the accessibility of virtual reality (VR) for users with visual impairments, particularly the mode of accessing a 3D virtual environment using a regular 2D screen and computer. We’ve created a virtual environment with accessibility features based on existing research, and we’re conducting a study to evaluate our virtual prototype and identify ways that we can improve it. We’re looking for participants who are 18 or older and have a visual impairment to test out our prototype and give us feedback/suggestions for improvements. All you need to participate is a regular keyboard!

This study will be completed remotely over web-conferencing software, e.g. Zoom. Participation includes three parts: an introductory interview, task completion in the virtual environment, and a followup interview. In the first interview, we will ask for some basic demographics information. Then we will explain to you how to access and use our virtual environment, and once you are comfortable with using it, we’ll ask you to complete some tasks (e.g. navigate to a certain place). In the follow-up interview, we’ll ask about your experience and feedback, which we’ll use to keep improving our prototype.

Your identity will be kept completely anonymous if we publish results of the study. Participation would take approximately 1.5 hours total, and we would provide a $15 Amazon gift card as compensation for your time.

If you’re interested in participating, please PM me or leave a reply to let me know so that I can get in contact with you via email to send the consent form and set up a call!

Thank you very much! I'm excited about this project too, I've been learning a lot about accessibility and it's been really fascinating :) We've reached our participant limit for this study, but if you'd be interested in participating in the follow-up study where we'll be seeking feedback on our hopefully improved prototype, let's stay in touch!

Ah, okay sure I would love to I am a very experienced user so I think I could help some hopefully. But yeah.

Sounds interesting, I'd love to participate! In fact I did something similar to this a couple years ago with another team. I've sent a PM with details.

Thank you so much to everyone for their interest! I've replied to all the PMs I've received with further info. We've reached our goal for the number of participants for this study, but we'd love to stay in contact with anyone else who's interested for our follow-up study after we've improved on our prototype and are seeking more feedback. We really appreciate everyone's interest and help!
