I find that if I wear contacts (or glasses), my almost blind eye gets ignored more easily.

Can't really say whether it affects my mood because I have a ton of other stuff influencing that

This works for me as well! When I wear a contact in my “bad” eye, my brain has a much easier time just using my good eye. I similarly only have some minor peripheral vision out of my bad eye but find it is just enough I prefer not to wear a patch.

I lost vision in my bad eye in 2017 and the initial adjustment (both physical and mental) took about three months. My doctor advised I visit a grief therapist and that was immensely helpful! Turns out the coping mechanisms for losing an eye are pretty similar to losing a loved one since both involve fear of the unknown.

Now my quality of life is pretty much back to normal. I drive, ski, and do various other activities I initially thought I wouldn’t be able to do. I regularly go entire days without even thinking about my bad eye. It gets better I promise!

Also check out r/monocular for more resources.

Have you tried an eye patch? I use one sometimes when closing my worse eye doesn't work

I've been blind in one eye from a very young age, and had to have it removed at 10 years old. It definitely destroyed my self esteem, I remember looking at myself in the mirror and crying because I was a freak. I felt like I looked like something out of a horror movie.

I still struggle with knowing my eyes don't look "quite right", and I hate seeing pictures of myself where my eyes don't line up right.

I’m pretty much blind in my right eye. I can still see out of it, mind you barely, if I close my left eye, but when using both eyes it just turns inward and is pretty much useless. I’m constantly depressed and irritated and my vision problems absolutely correlate with this.

I was born with microophtalmia in one eye wich essentially renders it totally useless and have to use an eye prosthesis and am currently working in my selfesteem with my psychollogist its not perfect but its going well...
There was a time that I really suffered because of it and was convineced that I would never find love, cant say I have succeeded in that part but I dont let it get to me that much anymore.
The trick to me is to cling to the things in life that really help me be myself and release all the frustration I build up inside of me every day. In my case playing music and sports really help me, combine that with meditation and its preetty much a stress/frustration overkill.

I'm not blind in one eye but I did have a lazy eye when I was younger so after corrective surgery I was never taught to use it. My brain can see clearly but would much rather use my right eye and tilt my head to look left.
