Replying and voting on reddit with a screen reader... (self.Blind)
submitted by guitarandbooks
Hey everybody. Quick question here... I feel sort of stupid posting this but I need an answer.

I switched from old reddit to new reddit a while ago. Everything is fine for the most part.

I am having one problem though. When you are navigating with a screen reader, whether that be Jaws on windows or Voiceover on Mac OS, when you want to upvote, downvote, or reply to a post, do you go above or below the text of the post to do this?

For some reason, I thought you had to go above the text to vote, reply, or check out the user who posted. I know that when you are browsing through the lists of subs/topics, the upvote and downvote buttons are above each link... I have a bad feeling I've been voting/replying to the wrong things for a year!

Used to be above for both posts and comments, but now it's above the post for posts and after the comment for comments.

Edit: I'm using NVDA

Edit again: replies are after the comment / post, after you read the comment press B and it says reply button after downvote.

Have you tried NVDA?

I've not used the new reddit site in a while but I believe you can go into forms mode and press a for upvote and z for downvote, there's also a list of shortcuts you can get by using the questionmark key.

Do you have an iPhone? I would recommend either dystopia which is in beta and you need test flight its a public beta I am currently using this and it’s super accessible or else use bacon reader any third party client will be tons more accessible reddit the actual site is accessible but very confusing you can navigate it but clients work so much better.
