Curious About Cooking (self.Blind)
submitted by jsamm423
This will probably be cross posted to other subreddits as a warning!!

Hey all! I am the sighted partner of a completely blind gentleman, who also suffers from ADHD. Something he hates doing and very much struggles with is cooking. It stresses him out to no end. I was curious if any of you redditors had purchased the Tovala Oven and/or meal service?

If you don’t know what tovala is, I’ll link the product, but a short explanation is that it’s a countertop oven that connects to wifi and an app on your phone that also has a meal service. The way it works is you scan the barcode on the meal service package and the oven automatically sets itself to cook the product correctly (it also works on store bought foods too)

Was curious if anyone might own one, or if anyone has any opinions on the product and if you guys think it’d be a good investment for my partner?

We use the Amazon Smart oven, so Alexa can control. it.

Älexa, Microwave for 1 minute.

It has a 100 dollar return policy, so I'd go for it if I didn't like to cook. Regarding accessibility, there's apps such as BeMyEyes, Aira, SeeingAI, etc, that can help him program a dish.
He may have to find a way to place a tag next to the barcode that needs to be scanned.

Sorry, 100 day return policy.

No I dont’ think so I kind of know how to cook but invest in ILS training and work regular equipment. Label them all and just put food in there to cook.I just don’t do anything complex. I think it’s not okay to make excuses for ourselves.

This sounds pretty cool actually. I can bare,y use a toaster oven because cooking devices are so unaccessible. I have no idea how I’m going to feed myself when I live on my own. This is good to keep in mind

This is untrue toaster ovens are pretty easy if you have them labeled.

Well I don’t live in a label-friendly house at the moment :( That’s a good idea though. Idk how I’d do it since toasters are small and don’t have a lot of space for labels
