Low vision resources in LA County (self.Blind)

Good morning everyone,
I’m a vocational counselor for adults with developmental disabilities in LA county & I have Optic Nerve hypoplasia and a BS in rehabilitation services from Cal state LA. I am of the firm belief that anyone who both has the drive to succeed and the proper resources can and will overcome more than most believe possible. To that end I’ve compiled every resource I can find and learned about any assistive technology I can to spread awareness & combat stigma.

My question to this community is... What resources, accommodation, or agencies would you recommend that helped you reach your level of independence as autonomy?

Growing up I received the bare minimum in accommodations and I realized there were tools I was never told about so I went to spread as mich awareness as possible. Thank you for taking the time to read this and possibly respond.

I am also in Los Angeles county. So hello fello SoCal.

VR was helpful for a time thinking of going back with them I think that I may want to change to studying something else again and may try for assistive tech but we’ll see.

I would say not much I’ve really managed on my own having the internet, and the write resources was very helpful got a scanner. Braille displays computers ipad iphone etc..... I have plenty of electronics here. Good disability office but otherwise not much.

Thank you for sharing with me. I am both relieved and a little saddened that we have similar experiences. Beyond an iPhone, E text, screen reader, scanner, a monocular, and cane training there hasn’t been many improvement to our AT for some timge.

That’s true enough though I’ve managed pretty well, if I may say. But this is also true I suppose.
